Dr. Razak himself is a likeable, personable doctor. During my initial office visit, he spent time going over the cardiac ablation, walking through the procedure in full, and discussing the risks involved. He clearly understands the standard protocols and possesses the technical capability you want in an electrophysiologist (EP). However, the care surrounding the procedure—the office environment, hospital management, post-op support, and general communication—tells a completely different story. Pre-Procedure Disconnect & Conflicting Messages: On the morning of my procedure, I asked when I would be able to speak with Dr. Razak. I was informed by staff that he was extremely busy and might not make it in to see me prior to the operation. Having a cardiac procedure performed on your heart without seeing your electrophysiologist beforehand is daunting, so I insisted on seeing him. The nursing staff assured me he was great, and eventually, he breezed in, gave quick assurances, and we moved… forward. While Dr. Razak was reassuring, the nursing staff provided wildly inaccurate and conflicting information. I was explicitly told that all of my problems would be completely gone after the procedure, that I would never have to worry about my condition again, and that I would not experience any ectopic beats or arrhythmias during recovery. Setting these unrealistic expectations created immense distress when my recovery proved to be the exact opposite. Complications, Closure Device, and Physical Toll: The procedure itself went smoothly according to protocol, but my recovery was immediately followed by arrhythmias that were significantly worse than what I experienced before the operation. This is a known risk and I accepted that. To make matters worse, a closure device was used in my groin that was completely ill-suited for my thin frame. It became obvious that this device is used because it allows the EP and medical staff to quickly seal patients up and push them down the conveyor belt to free up beds. If you are thin, this device is extremely irritating. It takes months to fully dissolve, leaving you with persistent pain, pressure, and intense discomfort in the groin every single day. Post-Op Chaos and Systemic Failures: What followed the procedure was a harrowing post-operative period that required more self-advocacy for my own health than I ever imagined would be necessary. My recovery involved multiple emergency room visits and the terrifying experience of having to receive adenosine in the ER—a drug that briefly pauses your heart—just to break the recurrent episodes. Living with the constant fear of SVT’s meant I couldn't go anywhere without worry. Once again, this was a known risk and I accepted it. Trying to get support from the facility during this time was nearly impossible: Clogged Communication: Phone lines were constantly jammed. It took hours of waiting and repeated attempts just to reach a provider or get guidance on next steps. Sloppy Documentation: My official medical records are incomplete, littered with uncorrected errors, and reflect sloppy record-keeping overall. This is not something we should ever accept as patients, but it feels like an uphill battle to fix. I had zero success with updating them, and now, even retrieving my records. Rushed Staff: The other providers I interacted with were hurried, giving inconsistent advice and conflicting points of view on my recovery plan. When I finally managed to secure a follow-up meeting with Dr. Razak, his primary solution was simply to offer a repeat procedure. While a repeat ablation is a known clinical possibility, the emotional and physical effort required to even get to that conversation was unacceptable. I had the sense, that the office wanted me to just go elsewhere because they had done all they could. Final Assessment: Dr. Razak is undoubtedly a capable doctor following established protocols, but he operates like a cog in a giant, bloated wheel—stripped of clinical cu

He was patient, friendly, but professional also. He communicated well and explanations were easy to follow and understand.

My Cardiac Electrophysiologist at VMMC retired, SO. 1. I scheduled my annual wDr. Razak (as one of 2 Cardiac Electrophysiologist at VMMC) months in advance. The DAY OF the appt, his office called & cancelled, no explanation but 'he needed to cancel'. 2. I rescheduled. His office cancelled AGAIN w no explanation, 18 hours before appt. 3. I rescheduled. This time, his office called the morning OF the appt to cx. I was told I needed to get a stress test before he would see me. When asked why this was not mentioned any of the 3 times I scheduled? No idea. 4. I rescheduled FOR THE FOURTH TIME, this time 2 coordinated appts, meaning MORE of a lead time. By now, my annual was going to be nearly a year late, and I not ONLY needed an annual appt, but a medication refill, & cardiac clearance for back surgery. They called 22 hrs before the appt to cancel bcs, "he doesn't DO cardiac surgical clearances." (which was requested by the neurosurgeon also at VMMC). When reminded the clearance was… just an add-on to a long scheduled Annual Appt, I was advised I could resched YET AGAIN or see a PA. YA. No thanks. The utter lack of respect and lack of accountability is mind boggling. I wouldn't trust him - or anyone I care about - with my Cardiac Health.

Dr. Razak explained my condition and the procedure I need in a caring and throughly knowledgable manner. I left my appointment feeling a weight had lifted.

To have a Doctor treat you like family is beyond words! He knew me coming in at this initial meeting. And going with my gut and "heart" feeling, I am extremely happy with my care by Dr Razak. I wouldn't look to no other doctor for this type of care.
