I called to request paperwork in advance of my son's visit - they thought that was unnecessary. I tried to explain that my son takes a long time to fill out forms but they wouldn't budge. Then I asked if I could tell them something in confidence that I was worried my son wouldn't say. At that point the assistant put me on hold to speak to the doctor and returned to cancel the appointment saying "he don't (sic) think your son is a good fit for him." Really? All patients tell the complete truth on their first visit? I was trying to be helpful - had waited 4 months for this visit - and they cancelled it. I was shocked. Now trying to figure out what to do to help my son.

This man only saw me for 3 days and about 4 minutes each visit and I believe he already had his mind made up before I even walked in the door. He wrote inaccurate things in my record in which I have proof of and then refuse to release my record to me knowing he screwed up and if I got a hold of the record he would be in trouble. He also diagnosed me with a few new things but failed to tell me this in person just prescribed a drug for me and sent me on my Merry way. I don't know how he is on the outside but in an inpatient basis he was the worst doc I've ever come across and I have one of the best psychiatrist in St Louis that I have been seeing for 10 years who never once mentioned a symptom nor a diagnosis that matched dr. Garcia's. I take mental health very serious and if you believe somebody has a mental illness then you need to discuss it with them if you're going to diagnose them. You also need to set up some sort of outpatient program and follow up along with explanations about… the medication you are prescribing. His heart is definitely not in it and he is Chairman of Psychiatry at Mercy and he is doing people with serious Injustice.

My father was a patient of his for a long time and my father felt as though he was not compassionate about his needs. He basically gave up on my father pushed him off onto another dr and shortly after my father took his own life. Do not recommend. Very disappointed with the lack of compassion and professionalism.

Dr. Garcia is the worst Doctor we have ever encountered. He misdiagnosed my mother so badly, she was in a fog for months. And when I begged him to take a second look on the medications, he refused to ever consider reviwing them. Even a social worker said she was over-medicated by Dr. Garcia. Finally, we stopped seeing him, and a new doctor removed my mother from his treatment... She started making progress in a matter of days. Dr. Garcia is a sadist and a quack. He almost destroyed my mother and our family. Do not EVER go under his medical care.

Dr. Garcia has been a lifesaver while caring for me. I have been treated by many psychiatrist & I find him to be an excellent physician !!! He has been a great diagnostician & provided up to date treatment. I would highly recommend him to any friend or family member! I THANK HIM for his KINDNESS & EXCELLENT SKILLS!

I have been a patient of Dr. Garcia's for 24 years and I think he is great.

He is just a machine. He does not spend a lot time with his patients. He dropped me because I missed an appointment due to an emergency at work and they turn their phones off at 3p so there is no way to contact him. I do not recommend.

I've been Dr. Garcia's patient for several years. There are four main reasons why I keep seeing him: he and his office attendants promptly return calls, he's willing to try a variety of different meds, it's apparent that he has an excellent understanding of psychiatric medicine, and he is easy to interact with. I would recommend him to anyone.

Yes, I was late repeatedly but to just drop me without even talking with me on the phone. I felt as if he belittled me. When he spoke of how much medication I was on and how if That didn't put me to sleep.... Than surely he wasn't giving me anything I couldn't handle. He made me feel small and acted like we were running out of drugs to try. There are thousands of antidepressants. I feel he was pushing a certain drug for a certain Company.

I have been Dr. Garcia's patient for over a decade. During that time, he has always been willing to try new treatments when necessary. Prior to finding him, I had seen psychiatrists who took a regimented, unilateral approach to how they treated certain conditions. Such an approach may simplify their medical practice, but it ignores that different patients have different needs. Dr. Garcia listens to your individual needs and works with you to find the best solution.
