Dr. Edward Au

Well, I'm pretty much pain free. Just a little arthritis in other parts of the foot but the severe burning pain that was almost continuous is GONE! Still getting that stamina on track. Strength is great 100,000% better. Thank you Dr. Au. Thanks to PMG too.

Well, I had the surgery on 1-18. I have had the soft cast replaced with a hard cast. Less than 15 minutes of time for that! Then a couple weeks later, the stitch knots were snipped and removed. Painless! I was more frightened of the stitch pulling than the surgery. Dr. Au explained it and had me watch the first one. Then I was no longer scared. He is so patient with the patient. A new hard cast for a couple more weeks, then the cam boot and therapy. You have to be slow and purposeful in the recovery of the mobility. I do not recommend this surgery for anyone over 60, or a busy care giver. It is very time consuming in post operative treatment. A lot of off your feet but it sure is nice not to have that continuous pain. Part 3 after therapy.

Dr. Au was great. He explained everything to me before the procedure. Very thorough and exceptionally competent.

I have been talking about my sore feet for a while. Dr. Au and I went through the necessary tests to determine my problem(s). One foot is kind of unfixable. The tendon is so destroyed that wearing a decent arch is only a temporary pain helper. After a couple miles, that foot seizes. The other will be cleaned up and restitched next Friday. He has been kind and knowledgeable. Completely explaining what needs to be done, how long I need to rest and post operative therapy thoughts. I look forward to hiking a hill again. Maybe into the Havasupai!

I have a special needs individual in my family that required a procedure to remove an ingrown toenail. My family member had had this procedure on the opposite great toe years ago and was aware of what the process entailed. However, Dr. Au and his assistant were over an hour late for the initial appointment. With a special needs individual this was not the most positive initial connection. While an apology was extended the care provided could have been much better. I explained that my family member was designated with a primary diagnosis (description of condition) to the assistant and Dr. Au. I was concerned when Dr. Au did not ask if the area was numb when he began the procedure. The surgical wound on one side of the nail was twice as deep as the other side. The nail removal was more than 1/4 of the entire width of the nail. There were no signs of infection prior to the procedure. Post care was followed meticulously. When contacting the office staff for a follow up… appointment I was advised there were no appointments available in the Surprise office until Nov. 5, well after the directed time for a re check. I opted to travel to the Glendale office location to honor the required appointment. I have no confidence in Dr. Au and will not continue to seek his care for the special needs individual in my family. The office staff did not listen when I called back to state infection had set in within 24 hours of the second visit. During the second visit Dr. Au went to remove skin from the affected area that bled and bled to the point where he turned to me and asked if my family member was on an anticoagulant medication that would cause him to bleed excessively. Again, with NO verbal warning to the client of what he was doing before he did it. The pair of surgical scissors used to cut away the skin were laying in the exam room and NOT in any type of wrapping. Assistant was not gloved, yet was asked to provide things and act as a second pair of hands to bandage the wound. When I called back to report angry red on the great toe the following day to our Primary Physician (also a part of Phoenix Medical Group) I was told by office staff my son could NOT be seen by his PCP because he had been referred out to Dr. Au. Again, the staff did not listen! I explained further care from Dr. Au was being declined! Every person has the RIGHT to decline care from a medical provider! Yet, the office staff put us through, not once, but twice to Dr. Au and his assistant. I had spoken with the triage nurse an hour prior to this interchange with additional office staff. When a client is trying to explain something you do not cut them off mid sentence and patch a phone call through based on your limited information. I was deeply disappointed in this exchange. Then, Dr. Au called back on another phone number to state he wanted to start my family member on an antibiotic. My family has opted to refer back to PCP for after care. We were sorely disappointed in the care received. I have not included all details, but I would strongly recommend if you have an elderly family member or a special needs individual in your care, Dr. Au and the office staff fielding his calls may not be your best choice.
