Dr. Edward Mingluan Gong, MD

Our son had hypospadias repair with Dr. Gong in 2023 and developed a fistula within weeks. Before the second surgery to repair it, Dr. Gong assured us it was his first fistula in five years and that none had ever followed his secondary repairs. We relied on that in proceeding with him. After the April 2026 repair, we reported urine leaking from the surgical site, with photos. He responded in writing that it could potentially be a fistula, but at the follow-up exam his documentation recorded no complications, attributing what we saw to turbulent flow. Nine days later our son was diagnosed with an infection at the site. A fistula has since been confirmed at the same location the surgery was meant to fix. Our 3-year-old now needs a third operation. We repeatedly described urine coming from the surgical site, yet the record reflected no complications. To us, it appeared our observations were dismissed. The hospital declined to waive even our out-of-pocket costs for the failed repair, and… our records request, including phone triage notes and the audit trail, remains unfulfilled. Fistulas are a known risk of this surgery, but based on the post-operative care, the documentation, and the response to our concerns, we could not recommend this surgeon. We are moving our son's care and pursuing the matter through regulatory channels.

Dr. Gong is not only a great Doctor, but he is wonderful human being. He cares about his patients and treats them like their own family. Thank you for helping my child.

I am absolutely appalled at our experience with Dr. Gong. My 1 year-old daughter had a few repeat UTIs and we were referred to him, and he recommended the VCUG test in the summer of 2018. This test involves repeated X-rays of the bladder -- a significant amount of radiation. At the time a pilot version of the test using an ultrasound instead of X-ray technology was nearing its conclusion (this is now the recommended way of doing the test) but Dr. Gong did not mention this option to us. Instead, our amazing primary care physician did and I had to call the hospital and his office to find a way to make the ultrasound version of the test happen. Post-test Dr. Gong refused to share results without an office appointment, so one month later we went into his office for him to spend 30 seconds giving us instructions to do a follow-up ultrasound one year later. One year later we got that ultrasound done and nobody called with results. Strange, right? I called his office and he refuses to give… results over the phone and requires an office visit.... and he has no office visits available until the new year (3-4 months away). It's comical how horrible this experience has been. If he put patients first he wouldn't allow nearly half a year to go by before sharing results with families.
