Dr. Edward John Mikol, MD

I couldn’t believe the way that he treated my grandmother. My grandmother has been sick for a very, very long time. She has had two strokes, a mild heart attack; and due to this she cannot feel her feet and sometimes cannot even feel her legs. She can’t even tell if they’re hot or cold. We’re even surprised that she can walk at all! This condescending piece of work had the audacity to offer her surgery for both of her knees and her right hip. My grandmother has been told by several different doctors that due to her other medical conditions such as her RA and her lupus that it would be nearly impossible for her to go into surgery, since both of these compromise her immune system. It would be almost impossible for her to heal completely. She gets sick very very easily and often. Her bones are like chalk and they’re like Swiss cheese. It is almost impossible for her to heal completely from any kind of fracture. So when she falls it is the scariest thing because we don’t know if she will… be able to walk or function afterwards. I can’t tell you how many times we have been to the hospital because she has gotten sick to the point to where we think she’s not gonna make it. Her other doctors are great! They’re always so kind and they always try to help her feel better. While this guy may know his medical field and area of expertise. I found him to lack any sort of compassion or even seeming to care about her other conditions. He didn’t even seem to look at her chart at all all he wanted to do was put her in surgery to fix her knees and her hip. If we had thought that that was possible at all, the doctors that she currently has would have given the OK. I have NEVER in my life been so angry at a physician. Of course after surgery they want to give you rehab. My grandmother has been with a cane or a walker for as long as I can remember and I’m 27. How is it possible for someone who has had two strokes and a mild heart attack to walk without a cane or a walker? When the previous doctors have told her that she will need it for the rest of her life? We recently found out, maybe about 7 years ago, that she needed to be on oxygen 24/7 because she had been smoking for 30 to 40 years of her life and she’s 73. Of course, she doesn’t smoke anymore she hasn’t smoked in maybe 15 years or more, and due to this of course her lungs have a lot of scar tissue. So she’s running at probably about 50% capacity in her lungs. About two years ago she was diagnosed with the lung disease that the doctor believes is caused by her RA and lupus, that’s another reason that she can’t go into surgery because she can’t really breathe, much less on her own. But he would’ve known that if he looked at her chart that clearly states all of her medical conditions, which I don’t even think he did. He may know what he’s talking about, but he lacks compassion, empathy, and report. If you’re looking to get disappointed, please feel free to waste your money and time to see this jerk.

I delayed repair of my shoulder Since we had several vacations planned. It would have been great if Dr. Mikol could have done an arthroscopy sooner, but it has been over a year now and my shoulder is like "it never even happened." He is the best and his staff is wonderful! I can't thank him enough!!

I found Dr. Mikol condescending and judgmental. Spent minimum time with me. Even lied about prior information given in appointments. Would never recommend him to family or friends for care

I have visited Dr Mikol several times with surgery one time Several just for pain which he gave me shots for. I would highly recommend him. .

After a pleasant introduction with his nurse, Dr. Mikol came in with a rude, arrogant attitude and did nothing but insult me for the entire time that I was there. He spoke to me like I was a child (I'm 50). I wouldn't recommend him to my worst enemy. What a nasty man who I will make sure to dissuade anyone I know from seeing.

Performed rotator cuff surgery on me and has operated on a number of my friends. I liked him and I loved Waccamaw Hospital but I am having surgery on the same shoulder again as the rotator cuff tore again several months later. I am using a different surgeon this time.

Did a great job. Good experience overall

I had knee replacement surgery 9 months ago. My knee is great and I have no pain.

My daughter injured her knee while cheerleading and I brought her to see Dr. Mikol. We never waited more than 10 minutes in the waiting room during any of our three visits and once we saw Dr. Mikol, he spent a great deal of time examining my daughter. He sent her for an MRI and after 3 visits of treatment her knee has healed and thankfully she won't be needing surgery. The staff was great and there were NO issues with handling of my insurance. I can't thank Dr. Mikol enough for taking good care of my little girl.
