Dr. Quentin Kalman Tanko, MD

My experience with Dr. Tanko was overwhelmingly negative. Following surgery for septic arthritis after a severe monkey bite to my wrist, I felt dismissed, unheard, and inadequately evaluated. During my office visits, he frequently interrupted me, minimized my concerns, referred to me as “kiddo,” and never performed a physical examination of my hand or wrist after surgery. I was expected to remove antibiotic-soaked packing from my surgical wound at home with only Tylenol and ibuprofen for pain. When I explained how severely the pain was affecting my recovery, I was told that because I had never given birth, I could not accurately judge my own pain. At my first follow-up appointment, I was criticized for not performing exercises that both my spouse and members of his staff confirmed I had never been instructed to do. When I asked to be taught those exercises, I was told there were no educational materials available. Suddenly the exercises were framed as non-consequential, and Dr.… Tanko suggested that “light chores like sweeping, dishes, and getting beers from the fridge from my boyfriend” would be adequate exercise. After my incision healed, I was dismissed from his care despite persistent neurological and vascular symptoms, and no postoperative imaging was ordered. Months later, another hand surgeon identified advanced post-infectious degeneration of my wrist that required reconstructive surgery. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Dr. Tanko.

2 months after a clean out of an absess I am still in excruciating pain and my wound still hasn't heeled. The wou d care nurse has found that I have a piece of tendon sticking out of my wound that was cut by Dr Tanko during the simple debriedment! I'm now looking at needing skin grafts and 4 more weeks of IV antibiotics!! Would never recommend him to Anyone! Choose some other ortho~ surgeon!!

Can't believe he is still in practice!!! He did knee replacement for me, in Dec. 2015. contracted MRSA, from unsanitary practices in his office. Had to have a total knee revision in Apr. 2017 ( Performed by another surgeon ) because Dr. Tanko failed to perform the replacement correctly. DO NOT GO TO HIM !!!!!

Prescribed surgery when it was not necessary. Quit or left with no warning.

I had 2 surgeries with him. One for a meniscus, and one for an ACL.

Dr. Tanko acts as a Independent Medical Exam doctor. He misdiagnosed and underestimated my auto accident injuries, thus cutting off my benefits way before recovery. Patient beware.

Dr. Tanko delivers caring treatment and education of needed interventions. Although he expresses that he enjoys surgery, he is not quick to go that route, instead appropriately seeking other less invasive options. He has provided treatment not only to me, for two separate diagnoses (one urgent and one elective), but also my teenager.

My son had a broken thumb and I was sent to Dr. Tanko. When we first met him, the first thing out of his mouth was how if we didn't pay him when the bill comes-he would sue us. No hello or nothing! He made it clear he would get his money. My son had a cast put on then a few weeks later part of the thumb was unraveling so they double wrapped it. Come time to take it off, the used the saw to cut it off AND CUT MY SON leaving awful burns on both sides of his hand and the lady who did it and the DR acted like it wasn't a big deal! The lady didn't even try to comfort my son while he was crying basically telling us Oh it feels like its touching him, he is fine. The other woman in there assisting was concerned and tried to help. The Dr tried to say it wasn't from the saw it was from the cast (the burns/cut) and a few days after we returned home, the burn went away and was left with cut lines. He did ask to see him back to check on the 'cast burns' but Im sure it was to cover his own butt. Not… going back to this man!
