Edward C. Nieshoff, MD, joined Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan (RIM) after completing his residency training at RIM in 1995. Currently, he is the Medical Director of Spinal Cord Injury Research and Outpatient Programs. He earned a B.S. in genetics at Ohio State University and graduated from the Medical College of Ohio in 1991. Dr. Nieshoff also serves as an assistant professor for the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Wayne State University School of Medicine, where he provides care to spinal cord inpatients, conducts research and instructs students and residents. He has received several honors and awards, and has co-authored publications addressing cardiopulmonary effects of arm cranking and wheelchair ergometry. Paralyzed from the chest down from a spinal cord injury, Dr. Nieshoff's personal experience affords him a unique rapport with his patients. He offers his patients proof that their lives are not over and strongly advocates for persons with disabilities
