Dr. Elaine Woo

It was my misfortune in the early 2000's to be Dr. Woo's patient. She was judgmental, uncaring and not even diligent enough to find that, under her care, my kidneys failed due to one of the prescriptions she wrote for me, piroxicam, and it took an outside doctor to pick it up. To my mind, that's a pretty big "Oops". There were many other problems as well. Overall I'd say if you can avoid her, do so.

I liked Dr. Woo If there were something really wrong with me which I had initially thought, I know she would have been right there for me. I felt really happy when I left which was odd because she was like let's figure out what is going on so you can get on with your life and I can get on with my more serious patients. She's not a therapist, she is an urgent care doctor!!! Big difference. Her staff also followed up. You can't get better than that.

There are many good doctors in Boston. Unfortunately, Dr. Woo isn't one. She simply does not care, at all.

I had been Dr. Woo's patient for several years, with only sporadic contact (I was young and healthy) and average patient experience. I sometimes felt her manner was a little short and that she wasn't terribly patient with small complaints (and my complaints were all pretty small).Then one day last year I was feeling a bit under the weather -- a late fall flu bug, I thought -- and made an appointment at the Wang Urgent Care Clinic. Dr. Woo happened to be on duty there that day, and frankly I expected to be sent packing with a quick "wait it out, nothing to do about a virus" message. Instead, she took one look at me, spent several minutes asking questions and listening to my symptoms, and ended up ordering a full bloodwork, just on a hunch that something didn't seem quite right.As it turned out, I had acute leukemia. Dr. Woo called me back at 9pm that night with the blood results to make sure I got admitted to the hospital that night. Throughout my treatment, she stopped by my hospital… room frequently to see how I was doing, and she even made time when my mother, staying with me from out of town, caught a UTI and needed a local doctor.In short, Dr. Woo does not suffer fools gladly, and she's not shy about letting you know if she thinks you're making a mountain out of a molehill. But the instant a serious medical situation presented itself, she sniffed it out with sensitivity and alacrity, and worked tirelessly to make sure I got the treatment I needed right away.
