Dr. Eleazar E. Soto

Our experience with Dr Soto was not positive. We were referred to him when my wifes amniotic fluid was suddenly low. She was 16 weeks pregnant. He told us to drink plenty of water and come back in 10 days. We were going to see if hydrating changed anything. When we returned, the ultrasound tech didn’t say a single word to us. We thought that was odd. We honeslty were not concerned that anything serious was going on. When Dr Soto came in the room, he told us that he didn’t have good news, that our baby had no chance to survive. We were stunned and confused, and he emphasized that the lungs need the fluid between week 16 and 20. He said that the baby would not be equipped to breathe even if moms body continued to carry. He determined that my wife now had no fluid at all. We had just saw our OB the day before who saw that the fluid was still very low, but it was the same amount as it was 10 days ago. So when I asked him how it was the same for 10 days and then the next day, when we saw… him, its now zero. His answer was that little fluid and no fluid yield the same result, the baby could not survive. He had no compassion for what he was telling us. He was not apologetic at all. He definitely was not interested in elaborating specifics on why he was sure this was the only outcome that would happen. He said that our option was to go out of state to terminate the pregnancy and that he could help us find a doctor if we needed. After dead air, he gave us some time to talk. We decided we were going to get another opinion. By the graces of God, honestly, We found a specialist who is not just a consulting dr, but a practicing dr. and he determined that the amount of fluid our baby had was just enough. My wife carried the baby to week 26 and 5 days and had an emergency c-section. After 98 days in the Texas medical center NICU , our baby discharged and is home healthy and strong. Our situation was rare, yes. And Dr. Soto was probably correct in certain cases. But in our case, his lack of experience, current education, and interest in taking his time with our case nearly cost us or baby. His front desk staff was hurried, and he definitely did not treat us like we were real people with a real life changing situation going on. Nor did he make any attempt to actually help us or refer us or take an actual look. What we found the difference is, was the Dr Soto is merely a consulting dr. He does not actively practice. The specialist we found, Dr Alfredo Francisco Gei, not only saw a different situation, but he himself evaluated and did our ultrasound so he could be sure of our situation. He was with us every step of the way and even did the c-section. If you are looking for a very experienced dr who is passionate about his work, helping people and truly giving babies a fighting chance, dry Dr. Gei. You can rest assured that you are safe in his care. At the very least, you can know that you honestly did all you could to save your baby. Dr Gei always has a line of students he mentors. He is the best of the best. Our diagnosis was PPROM (preterm previable rupture of the membranes), and oligohydramnios fits the description too. Dr Soto is unbelievably kind and responsive. Was seen same day when something worrisome was found on ultrasound.
