Dr. Ellen Michelle Lowrey

I CANNOT in good conscience as a retired healthcare clinical intelligence consultant, recommend Ms. Ellen Lowrey to other individuals requiring occupational therapy. Ms. Lowrey’s behavior and words are a serious detriment to the excellent work of the surgeons and staff at Chicago Hand and Orthopedic Surgery Centers. From February 2022 through March 2023, Ms. Lowrey was my therapist for problems in my right shoulder post-surgery. At first, she was pleasant and professional, but starting in November 2022 her behavior towards me became erratic and unprofessional. Ms. Lowrey would become rude, impatient, and she frequently mistreated me in front of other patients and my family, particularly when I asked why my shoulder was not making sustained improvement. One day, Ms. Lowrey’s response was short and tart – “You are doing ALL the exercises wrong! How many times do I have to show you them, Ken?” At another session, despite 15+ years as a health care professional, Ms. Lowrey made several… jokes about my memory issues. She did not make any effort to apologize for her words until I stated my dismay and bewilderment to her assistant in a subsequent conversation. Ms. Lowrey even argued with my daughter over whether Ms. Lowrey had shown me how she wanted an exercise completed and how many repetitions per set. Furthermore, I saw Ms. Lowrey become belligerent with other patients. In one instance, a patient became so incensed with Ms. Lowrey because of her comments to him that he swore at her and said he would never come back to finish his therapy. Ms. Lowrey laughed at his outburst and told me “So what.” If you need OT, please go somewhere else.
