Dr. Ellen Shapiro, MD

She is very rude to her staff and her surgeries take forever unnecessarily.

Dr Shapiro is wonderful & has done 4 surgeries on my son. She is caring, accommodating and very attentive after the surgeries. We love her! The office staff are another story, horrible, unprofessional, lazy, uncaring and disorganized! There is no courtesy, no updates if you are waiting in the office and the new sign in system makes it even less personal! She needs new office staff to match her expertise!

Dr. Shapiro is AMAZING. My son had two surgeries with her. She would come at least once a day to check on him and would call me or text me from her personal cell phone to check on his progress. Additionally, every few hours she sent a member on her team to stop by as well. She is so caring, so responsive, and always looking to make her patients comfortable. Her office hours can be long, but there is a reason for it. She sits down and really takes the time to get the full picture on what is going on with her patients. SHE IS WORTH THE WAIT. I came to her for a second opinion based on a recommendation from a nurse friend who called her the "god of urology" and I never left. She is highly regarded in her field and everyone that I mention her name to knows her and I've been told many times from other doctors and medical professionals that I am in the best hands- she wrote the books! I can reach her anytime on her cell and she always takes the time to explain everything. Very… humble and kind. One doctor told me that you won't find that care in an attending anywhere else. And they were right! So if you are concerned about wait time, know that you are in good hands and just make your appointment for early in the morning.

Dr. Shapiro is very good at what she does. However, she is WAY over scheduled and you often have to wait for hours to get in.

When my daughter was born the pediatrician told me she needed to have surgery on her kidney and recommended Dr. Shapiro. A few pediatricians scared me about my daughter's condition and the Internet didn't help either. Dr. Shapiro eases my mind about the situation and she explained in detail what my daughter had and the surgery she needed. She seemed extremely knowledgeable and caring. She even went to see us at the hospital even though she was on vacation. My daughter is scheduled to have surgery soon and I know I can trust Dr Shapiro.

We waited a total of 7 hours for 2 visits with my 7 month old baby. He had to have surgery with Dr. Shapiro. The stitches were done extremely poorly and his wound began opening very soon after the surgery. During our follow-up Dr. Shapiro did not even know what incision she was looking for. I'm sure she would be a competent doctor, but unfortunately her staff is boggled and inefficient, and as a result she is often rushed and disconnected. I believe she is better known for her kidney expertise, but for other urological issues we had a horrible experience. I am almost horrified at the care we received with this practice.

After arriving for a scheduled appointment, we waited over 2 hours to see the doctor. When it started to look like 3 hours we had to leave, without seeing the doctor, to pick up our other child at school. I can understand doctors running 20 or 30 minutes late, but 2 hours, without warning from the staff, is entirely unacceptable. She may or may not be a good doctor, but the total lack of respect for our time has us reconsidering. If you go, be prepared to wait, or find someone else.

She was kind, gentle and knowledgeable with my baby. After just one visit, I feel like I can really trust her. I really recommend her!
