Dr. Ellen M. Whitaker, MD

I was a patient of Dr. Whitaker's for several years. She is technically adept but has a poor bedside manner. At the end of our time together, when I was 46, Dr. Whitaker dropped me down to the new guideline of mammograms every other year, in spite of a history of breast fibroids. In that intervening year, I developed HER2+ breast cancer that spread to my liver. This was bad enough, but her lack of empathy in the situation made it even worse. I was going through multiple tests and scans before I actually met with an oncologist. The results were typically called in to me on Fridays, resulting in anxiety-ridden, horrible weekends. I asked the doctor to call me with the next results, telling her this experience. My hope was that she would act as a way to coordinate getting information about these many tests. After a breast MRI, she called me with the results, again on a Friday. The news was not good. I asked for further information about the scan. The doctor's reply was to tell me… she did not have the report in front of her, so could provide no details. And then she added, "Well, I guess you are going to have another horrible weekend then." At that point I chose to find another gynecologist. Not having the scan was bad enough, but the comment alone required an immediate switch. Empathy is key in any patient/doctor interaction.

I had an appointment with Ellen Whitaker for common Gynecology issues. Ellen was very pre-occupied with her personal matters and totally unconcerned regarding my chief complaint. She didn't speak upon entering the room, she is very mean and never smiles. I proceeded to explain my concerns. She shrugged her shoulders and stated, "this is not a gynecological matter" and left the room. She never even took a sample of urine, exam or anything. If she had only taken a urine sample would have saved me much pain and unnecessary stress. If you're seeking a good knowledgable, caring and friendly Gynecologist, STAY CLEAR FROM ELLEN WHITAKER!

Dr. Whitaker had a way of making a visit seem less awkward. I've always received excellent care and frank, sound advice from her.

Today, I had a full GYN exam appt with Dr. Ellen Whitaker, she did her job, but she does need to work on her bedside manner. I told her that I did yoga and she called that hocus pocus. She leans more towards athletic. When I told her my employment vs educational background, she stated I was "...creature." Because I am a positive person, I do try to see the silver lining in everything even when I could take something in offense, (as society tells us) she told me, she didn't mean her statement as a compliment, but more like an observation. Initially, she stated that she likes to hear folks' stories, but when you do so, it might be best to state responses that would not be deemed offensive/insulting. Would I return to her? No. For me, the most important thing when dealing with any healthcare professional is, how does this person make me feel? To call yoga, something I practice, hocus pocus, is insulting and offensive. And just being called....creature, it's doesn't make me… feel good. I, like most people in the professional world, I know how to fake it until I become it. But at the end of the day, I always know what is real vs. unreal. Feeling is the most important thing to me. Pro- Appt was 11:30, got there 11:15. I was sitting in the exam room by 11:47, I was out the door by 12:10 pm. I had my blood work done right then and there. She did the full GYN exam. Quick and simple.

Ellen Whitaker is extremely preoccupied with other matters when she walks in the room. She assumes a delusional insane "made up" diagnosis when she really has no clue what the problem / issue at hand is. She has proven to be uncaring because of her attitude and ignorant unprofessional responses in return. You get far better professional care at the many Prompt Care Facilities. Ellen needs to retire because of her misdiagnosis' and she loves to brush people off. Not good at All!

Dr. Whitaker has PERSONALLY called me after on at least two separate occasions to let me know of my exam results when they were irregular. I find her easy to talk to, and I like her direct, matter of fact method of explaining things. I would highly recommend her.

She made the entire experience quick and painless. She is polite, but to the point. Dr. Whitaker treated me like an intelligent person, and wasn't condescending. However, she won't take nonsense.

she rushed patient very much and she assummed everything you told her does not make sense. she does not listen and she is very abrupt when asking her a question. sometimes i kept my questions because the way she will response to the question makes me scared.
