Dr. Elly Barua Bhuyan, MD

Very difficult and not dependable in getting follow up and information sent to your primary care from her office. Not very cooperative receptionist - has an attitude when trying to make convenient appointments.

I will never go back to her again. She didn't care to know much about my past history with medications i have taken or procedures i have gone through. Everytime i would go in to see her she was rude and would come out of her office and say oh you have an appointment like it was something no one told her. you could hardly understand her because of her accent. The worst part is everytime i went in to see her she could never remember which medications she had put me on and would ask me what i was taking. It made me feel as though i couldn't trust her to make good judgment calls on what i should take. She is also very pushy. She tries to make you take medicine that you are uncomfortable with or don't want to take. Personally i think she hates her job. I would NEVER recommend her to anyone!

Dr. Bhuyan is an excellent doctor. I have seen her for over 8 years. I had seen several p-docs before her, who prescribed me medications that only exacerbated my condition. She has quick insight, listens to what I have to say, especially in terms of if a medication does not seem like its working, and is quick to work with me on a solution. She is extremely responsive to phone calls, calls back always with in a few hours if you call her during daytime hours. No wait time. I find her quite personable and sweet, unlike some other reviewers. The office staff are wonderful, so sweet and professional. I have recommended her to many people.

She spent a lot of time reviewing psychological workup from UMSL, school report cards and IEP documents, asked may questions. Was very reassuring. Gave medication for my young child conservatively. She explained the medicine to my child as "good and helpful for you if you need it" which was all he needed to know, he trusted her.

Except for being difficult to understand due to her thick accent, she seems very good so far.

Elly may be perceived as not being personable, I felt that originally, too, but over 20+ years, and having gone to more 'personable' doctors only to be over-medicated, I do not trust anyone more with my medications than Elly. She's knowledgeable, candid about things I can do to help myself, and is not a drug junky. She's helpful by providing medicine "from her closet" to see how it affects you before she asks you to spend $ on a full-prescription, and to help you through a shortage between refills. Her staff is absolutely helpful and sweet. The best conversationalist? Maybe not, but she has earned my trust explicitly!

She was the worst. I went in there to get new adhd meds and she didnt even address the adhd. She gave me medicine without telling me what it was for. I had to research it when I got home to come up with what her diagnosis was. She went into a cabinet and pulled out medicine and just handed it to me.

My experience with Dr. Bhuyan has always been a good one. She's pretty direct and she doesn't always tell you what you want hear, but I've made alot of progress since I started seeing her. She always returns my calls promptly and she's always caring and professional.

Dr. Bhuyan started treating my teenage son for depression and ADHD two years ago, and the progress he has made since then is phenomonal! She actually LISTENS to how he feels and what he has to say, unlike other so-called experts and even some of his own family members. She encourages honesty and makes sure that he knows his well being is a priority. She is just fantastic with children and teenagers. She gets it!!

I would not recommend this doctor to anyone, she does not spend enough time with a patient at all.
