Dr. Emil William Chynn, MD

In his prime Dr. Chynn was an extremely smart and experienced surgeon. However his mental state seems to be in clear decline and I warn everyone to investigate any of thousands of other doctors to perform their delicate eye surgery. My husband and I worked as office managers for a short time and witnessed Dr. Chynn yelling, screaming at his entire staff and even multiple patients. Many prospective patients elected not to get the procedure after witnessing his erratic behavior. Other doctors and staff members that had worked at the office for much longer verified that they saw the same behavior and confirmed that he had a family history of early onset alzheimer's. He overbills medical insurance with false diagnosis and pays off unsatisfied patients. He witholds payment from staff for not meeting sales expectations or for making clerical errors. I could not bear to work in this environment any longer. If you have had a poor experience with this doctor I encourage you to investigate with… your insurance company and professional legal representation.

Hi! My name is Zakir. I am an eye surgeon from Kazakhstan. I met Dr.Chynn at ESCRS (Milan city), he was invited to give a lecture about why LASEK is safer than LASIK. He is a very prominent eye surgeon, because the fact that he was invited to lecture as a SPEAKER. It is very competitive challenge to be invited as a speaker for a such huge annual meeting among ophthalmologists, who come all over the world. Horrible experience with Dr. Chynn. The Mensa-membership is likely a myth. Dr. Chynn has poor professional and organizational skills. His most notable skills are putting down his staff and trying to get money from his patients. Dr. Chynn does not have any sense of responsibility or ethics. He canceled my surgery as I was riding in a taxi to his office from New Jersey. That was because he didn’t have the supplies necessary for the surgery. He told me to go home and didn’t call me back. I contacted his office myself later in the day. He lied and cursed out his assistant, then he talked to himself and continued cursing the assistant. He refused to talk to me. Later during the same day, Dr. Chynn called my brother to apologize for his behavior. My brother is a lawyer and had his Lasek procedure with Dr. Chynn a few years ago. The outcome was positive, and that is why I went to Dr. Chynn for a consultation about a year ago. I left a deposit for the surgery in the amount of $500. Dr. Chynn… billed my insurance for the consultation, even though the same was advertised as free. Recently, I went back, finished the eye exam and paid another $4,000 for the procedure. After seeing Dr. Chynn in action on the day of the surgery, I lost all confidence and was very stressed out at his breach of contract, lies and cover up. His mistreatment of the assistant was very unjust and crude. I asked him to stop but he refused to do the same. Dr. Chynn had two weeks to prepare for the surgery; he did not; he told me to go home; then he told me to come back (after I cancelled all of my aftercare plans and returned to working from home). At this point, the idea of having my eyes touched by Dr. Chynn gives me the creeps. I do not want him operating on my eyes. I made this very clear. Nonetheless, Dr. Chynn who he didn’t perform the procedure is plainly refusing to issue a refund of $4,500, which he charged for the procedure. He wants me to do the procedure with him anyway, because I have a good insurance, which he can bill creatively to get additional money. It feels like he is financially and emotionally coercing me into having the surgery. Dr. Chynn presents as an incompetent and mentally unstable individual. He is not the doctor I would want operating on my eyes. I hope this eventually resolves, and my bank will dispute the transactions favorably. If you have other options, don’t get involved with Dr. Chynn. Save your dignity, time and money.

My whole life I have struggled with contacts and glasses, I can't believe how easy it was, the procedure didn't hurt, I literally stared at a light for 20 seconds and I can throw my old glasses away, I cried by myself knowing that I've been missing out on perfect vision, but thanks to Dr. Chynn and his amazing staff, I never have to worry about glasses and contacts and live my life the way I want to.

About 7 months after my lasek surgery, I’m now pretty comfortable with my new vision and no need for glasses anymore. It’s really pretty amazing. I’m glad I did this.

It has been 7 years since I had my LASEK surgery, performed by Dr. Chynn. What can I say? -DREAMS COME TRUE IF YOU BELIEVE AND MEET RIGHT DOCTOR. My life has changed ever since. Doctor Chynn literally changed the way I think of this world, my attitude towards medicine and brought light to my life. I started losing my vision at the age of 5, drastically dropping down each year, I went through years of hospitals and cruelty from kids who were mocking me. As you know you can not get contact lenses when you are a child. I had two surgeries when was 12, and two more at the age of 16. No results of improving eyesight were witnessing. I lost my hope and finally when I got the courage to check how bad it was I was informed my doctor that I was -15 (astigmatism, myopia, and loose eye). I spent days crying: all that I could think of was just being blind and not making this life at all. A CHANGING LIFE EXPERIENCE ! after bumping into weird doctors in Manhattan who were absolutely positive that… my eyes could not be ideal ever and were offering to install eye - implants and then correct with laser, I was looking at spending 10k and there was no 100% guarantee of success. Really ??? Fortunately enough, I was denied by the bank to get a loan and absolutely accidentally coming after work saw a sign Park Avenue LASEK. I gave it a try. Vu A La.. I am 20/20 NOW... what is this: a miracle? God's help or just simply a high level of professionalism. Who are you, Dr. Chynn? It might sound too spiritually .. but anyone who feels the pain I went through will understand me. I wish New York was carrying more professionals like doctor Chynn. 23 years I was wearing glasses and contacts, In ballet school, I even could not perform sometimes due to my eyesight. Maybe this is what people call " miracle" I am honored to write this and share my true story with others. I

I had Lasek done last year and it resulted with overcorrection. Had enhancement surgery done 3 weeks ago. I can see better now.

Reasons why I will never recommend Dr. Chynn to my friends and family: #1-I was given a pill prior to the surgery which also has a side effect of drowsiness. So by the time, I was on the operating table, I became sleepy and couldn't keep my eyes open. Dr. Chynn kept on poking my head (not so gently) telling me to keep my eyes open. Clever! Lasek wasn't aiming just at my eye balls; hence, now the extreme sensitivity to my eyes per my assumption. Timing of the medicine was too early as it seemed. His judgment was in question. Almost every morning, I couldn't open my eyes until they are adjusted to light and dryness. My eyeslids twitch for a good few minutes before they open. #2-a doctor with poor character. I called the office about 2 months after my surgery asking for a receipt of payment as my health flexible account needs it before a certain due date. They refused to release the receipt until I come back for a follow up check. I explained the urgency but he refused to… release the receipt unless I come back for another appointment. I agreed to schedule an appointment for now but need the receipt prior to apt date; apparently that was not good enough. He held my receipt hostage in order to make another sell to his patient. Very unethical and unprofessional! The whole procedure took about 2 months with pre and post surgery appointments (about 5+). Some of these appointments require medical assistants to explain the process. When these assistants cannot explain the way he wanted it, he publicly yelled at them and made them repeat over and over again. The lady was on the verge of tears. I had to walk out of there because I didn't want to be part of it and I was there for over an hour. His treatment to employees (especially female from my observation) was belittling and disrespectful.
