Dr. Emily C Chao, DO

My family immigrated to the States from Taiwan when I was 13 years old, and I attended high school in the Seattle area. I have always considered Seattle to be _home_ even though I have lived in many other parts of the country. This is also where I met my husband, who has a wonderful sense of humor and is very supportive of my demanding work schedule. Before I became a doctor, I worked as an engineer, and although I enjoyed the analytical aspects of that profession, I missed the human factor. I truly believe medicine is a calling and I appreciate the privilege of caring for my patients every day. I chose to practice at Kaiser Permanente because of its organizational model, with generalists and specialists working side by side to provide coordinated care to all patients. There is also a genuine sense of camaraderie among the staff here.
