I interacted with Emily while inpatient dealing with postpartum psychosis. I voluntarily checked myself into Mayhill Hospital at the onset of my symptoms. While in active psychosis, it was documented that I made statements including “I heard voices telling me to drown my daughter”, “I’m so confused, it’s like I saw myself do it, but I don’t know if I did”, and “why is this happening to me?”. It was documented that I was terribly upset and afraid while making these statements while in postpartum psychosis. Since this has happened, I’ve been educated on what postpartum psychosis is. These statements are VERY common for women in postpartum psychosis. Mental Health Care professionals with experience do not believe statements such as the ones I made are a concern if the woman making them does not agree with the statements and shows fear of such statements. Emily, however, decided to tell CPS that I wished to harm my child. No where did I indicate that I wanted to or intended to harm my… child. I was not a threat to my child. (There was an active CPS investigation going on at the time because I reported abuse by my then spouse days before going into active psychosis.) Emily also documented that I reported abuse while in inpatient care, but because I was in psychosis, I wasn’t a “reliable source”. It is because of Emily’s actions that I have been under supervision with my daughter from April 3, 2023 until present, January 25, 2024. Here it is a whole year later since I suffered psychosis and I’m being supervised with my child. Emily failed me as a health care professional. Because of this, she’s given my abuser the upper hand as I fight for custody of my daughter and divorce. Psychosis is completely recoverable; however, my ex and his sleazy lawyer have insisted that I have been in psychosis all this time. I would not have been released from the hospital if this was the case. Ultimately, Emily’s actions contributed to me having constant supervision- thus stripping my ability to parent away, having to pay child support and giving my abuser a false leg to stand on regarding my mental health. Emily actions have put my daughter at risk with her abusive and unstable father and he has been rewarded for being the terrible person that he is. Considering Emily’s profession, I encourage her to learn more about postpartum psychosis before another innocent woman seeking treatment is villainized like I was.
