Dr. Ena Elizabeth Hennegan, DO

We have seen Dr. Hennegan since we moved to the Chicago area over 20 years ago. Even when we moved an hour away after just 5 years we still make the trip to see her. I can't say enough about how we appreciate her as a Dr. and as a person. She ALWAYS takes the time to go through all of our concerns and we never feel rushed. I think the best example I can give is that many years ago before electronic prescriptions were the norm, I needed a scrip filled asap but with my work schedule there was no way for me to get to the office in time to pick it up before they closed. Dr. took the scrip herself to the pharmacy so I could stop by and pick up the medication on my way home from work.

She is a great doctor, timely and makes sure you get the care and test you needed

Dr. Hennegan is kind and caring. Her willingness to take extra time to explain things to me – whatever it may be – makes her indispensable in my life. I am grateful that she is my physician.

Dr. Hennegan is a thorough and caring doctor, who takes time with her patients. It may take an extra few minutes to see her, but it is worth the wait because she always treats me like I am the most important person. Thanks!

I went to Dr. Hennegan with a list of questions about symptoms I had been having. It had been a while since I had gone to a dr since mine had retired and I wanted to go to a female because I thought I would feel more comfortable than with a male dr. I also had a long history of medical issues and a long family history that needed to be discussed. The more we got into my history and my family's history, the more impatient and irritated she got, to the point where I felt really uncomfortable that I was taking up too much of her time. One of the things I wanted to discuss was hypoglycemia, which I assumed I had because of certain symptoms. I described my symptoms and she said, yes, that sounds like hypoglycemia and she asked if I had ever been tested. I said no, but she never offered to have me tested. I then asked her if she could give me any information on it or explain to me more about it and she asked me if I had looked on the internet!? No, I don't usually get my medical… information on the internet, I prefer to ask a professional. I asked her if she could give me any dietary suggestions or a list of foods that were safe for hypoglycemics and foods to avoid, just something that would give me more information. She said I should eat one protein and one complex carb at each meal. I said I was doing that already and it still wasn't working. She didn't seem interested in discussing it further, but she did say she would try to find something about it and get back to me, which she never did. After having done my own research on the internet(!), I found that hypoglycemia leads to pre-diabetes, which leads to diabetes, which seems pretty serious to me. I would think she would have wanted me to know that. I am so disappointed that I had to go through my whole medical history and family medical history with her, and now I have to do it again with a new doctor. If you have any in-depth medical history of your own or of your family's, or you want info on hypoglycemia, or you want a family doctor with any bedside manner whatsoever, you'll want to look elsewhere.

Having multiple medical conditions and seeing many specialists I'm used to have to wait for doctors....her wait by far is typically less than mosts in busy practices and I like that she takes the time necessary to explain everything to you including the results of the testing if done. Tries conservative treatment first and than adds on from there which I prefer. An excellent Doctor!

Dr. Hennegan is never on time. As far as diagnosing, it's a 50/50 chance. Easy things like earaches, flu, colds, etc., is a no brainer. If the symptons are more serious or ongoing, she orders tests, doesn't come up with a definitive diagnosis and takes a "wait and see attitude". Several times she has misdiagnosed members of my family and prescribed medication that made them worse instead of better. Speaking of prescriptins, her writing is so bad that my pharmisist has to ususally call her to get the correct prescription. That's an accident waiting to happen. As far as the staff, most of them are not friendly.

Dr. Hennegan is a very thorough doctor. She listens very carefully to what you are saying, and is never dismissive, as some doctors can be. And she makes a real point of getting to know you and family; I really feel like she cares about my whole family and wants us to be healthy!
