Dr. Er-Kai Gao, MD

This guy has no business practicing medicine. He insulted my mom to her face when she had ALS and could not get out of her wheelchair to sit on the exam table. I’ve never seen anything like it. We immediately left, then went and cried in the car. This is no physician, steer clear!

His office is poorly run, It always takes at least an hour before you see one of his PAs. He requires quarterly office visits to renew medicines I have been taking for 20 years. Never have I had a doctor that requires $200 office visits every 90 days for a well controlled condition. The back office is terrible. They can't bill correctly. The billing group will yell at you for them putting the wrong codes on claims forms. Steer clear of this office.

I was representing my Developmentally Disabled sister who had a stroke. Dr. Gao wanted to "pull the plug" on her because he said she was basically useless. To demonstrate that my sister was unresponsive, he took his car keys out of his pocket, and scraped the bottom of her foot as she was lying there on the gurney. My sister cried out "Owe!" Fortunately, I was able to get my sister discharged and transferred to a long term care facility, where she gained remarkable progress and lived happily for over ten years, passing away at the age of 72!

My experience with this Dr is the same as others have said. Bad bed side manners and sarcastic. I was there to discuss my brain tumor and this Dr spent our time giving my husband a hard time over his place of employment. His assistant even knew he was being rude because he apologized for Dr Gao's behavior when he stepped out of the room. His office is very cluttered, dirty and crowded. I didn't even want to put 1 star.

My wife saw him at her stay at grosmont hospital. This Dr had the worse bedside manor I have ever seen. He discussed our case in front of.people that should of not heard anything. Extremely rude person.

I had been to a number of doctors all on the Sharp/Grossmont list for sever neck pain and loss of feeling in my legs. I was practically in a wheel chair all of the time and the best the system would do was to plan an operation to remove vertebrate and fuse some others. Fortunately, I found Dr. Park in San Francisco, and he told me to see Dr. Gao here. One thing led to another and that has been over 6 years ago and I still have not had that operation and my quality of life is nearly 100%. Dr. Gao has literally saved my life. Is he hard to see sometimes, yes, but he always spends as much time as I need to understand. But you have to ask. I do not think he means to be rude, as I have never seen this myself and I see him every month for nearly 7 years now. Decide for yourself, don't let someone else s opinion sway you from seeing a really good doctor who is more concerned with healing than he is in social customs. Not that, that isn't important, but I will take quality of care… over beside in an instant. That is exactly what I have gotten. Good Luck.
