Dr. Eric Paul Elias, MD

At first, Dr. Elias seemed so nice and kind. Everything was smooth sailing with routine checkups. I even recommended him to friends. But then I developed a condition that actually needed treatment, and that’s when everything fell apart. I got a pelvic floor injury from a motor vehicle collision. It’s very common, probably one of the most common injuries women get, and it’s something all gynecologists should be familiar with. Well, apparently Dr. Eric Elias was not. When I explained my injury to him, he went on to explain anatomy to me as if I wasn’t familiar. He described a completely different injury with an extreme example that didn’t fit my situation, then told me there was no way I could have this injury. The problem is, he never actually checked. He only did the standard exam. He also said he was capable of performing a more thorough exam of that area but, for some reason, refused to do it. Because of this unwillingness to check properly, he missed the injury. Despite refusing… to examine the area, he repeatedly insisted I was "completely anatomically normal", waving his hands like he was trying to calm me down. But it was he who appeared upset. Then he crudely explained exercises that he claimed would repair the injury if I thought I had it. I had already researched this and explained that while some nearby structures might improve with physical therapy, medical literature clearly states that my particular injury cannot be repaired without surgery. Also, the exercises he was telling me to do were actually the exact opposite of what I needed because I had hypertonicity of the pelvic floor. A physical therapist would have known this. So I said, okay, if you’re going to deny the injury, refuse to examine the area, and tell me exercises will fix it even though you believe I don't have it and despite medical literature stating that this is not possible, then how about you send me to physical therapy? I was already going to PT for the MVC, and they also do pelvic floor therapy there, so they could have diagnosed the problem and referred me properly. Nope. He didn’t do that. He wouldn’t even send me to physical therapy. I asked for the two referrals I needed. He flat out refused. Said I didn’t need surgery because, in his opinion, I didn’t have the injury. I know I have the injury. Instead, he said he would refer me to a gastroenterologist for a colonoscopy. This is the wrong specialist and the wrong test for my injury. I tried again to get him to send a PT order so they could at least evaluate me and get the referrals. He refused again. I tried to get the other two referrals. Still nothing. I called later to try and get those referrals and never heard back. I immediately called my insurance, found a new gynecologist, and got diagnosed within minutes after a simple physical exam. I was given the exact two referrals I had asked Dr. Elias for. No problem. I didn’t even specifically have to ask for them. They confirmed I need surgery for this injury. I decided to go to the referral Dr. Elias gave me anyway, the gastroenterologist, just as a precaution and for preventive care. They had no idea why I was there, and they hadn’t even heard of this condition. My fiancé overheard the nurse practitioner ask another provider what it was, right there in the waiting room. It was laughable. So I’m very glad I got this taken care of elsewhere. After reading other reviews mentioning patients being dropped or ignored, I waited until I had proper treatment established before calling Dr. Elias’s office manager, hoping she would listen and at least convey my experience to him. Well, it went about as poorly as everything else with Dr. Elias. Of course, the very next day I received a portal message saying Dr. Elias had canceled my appointment. He was swift and quick with that. But seriously, I will never get those lost months of suffering back. I hope no other patients have to go through what I did.

Smart fast nice staff clean office and not to mention pretty handsome. So far nothing negative to say.

Dr E cool and smart. Nurse Jenny and Heidi so helpful. Made my pregnancy smooth. Lgmc nurses were awesome and Dr E goes there. Can’t say enough good things about the whole deal.

Dr Elias takes care of my whole family. My sister lost her job and is now on Medicaid. She was kicked out of her other doctors who delivered her first two babies , office mid pregnancy 20weeks for having to get on bayou health plan. He treats her like he treats me with Cigna. A truly nice person. I thought doctors took a oath to help all?

Dr E is great moving to a new OB is never easy. He and his staff made me feel comfortable. Office is clean and brand new. First class operation.

Moved to bb after Katrina. Feel like Dr E is family. Helped me with my problem and also took the the time to find me a doctor to help with my sugar. He is one of the good guys
