Dr. Eric Janssen is a board certified orthopedic surgeon with over 20 years of experience. He specialized in sports medicine with an emphasis in the diagnosis, treatment and surgery of the knee and shoulder. His interest in sports medicine comes from a long history as a high school and college athlete. Dr. Janssen attend Marshall University on a football scholarship and earned both academic and athletic honors.

He graduated in 1986 and complete his residency at Mount Carmel Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. In 1992, Dr. Janssen completed a sports medicine fellowship at Hughston Orthopaedic Clinic in Columbus, Georgia. He is founding partner and past president of SportsMED Orthopaedic Surgery & Spine Center in Huntsville, Alabama.

Dr. Janssen is active in his community and has served on numerous boards and advisory committees. He is the team physician for several area high schools and colleges. He is a husband, father, grandfather, pilot and cancer survivor.

Very disappointed with the surgery outcome and post surgery response from Janssen. My wife went in for shoulder replacement surgery about 2 months ago. She was in pain and had limited motion in her arm,but had full use and feeling in her hand and fingers. After surgery, the pain has decreased some, however she has not gained any motion in her arm and has lost feeling and mobility in her hand. After intense physical therapy Janssen has told her she may not get the mobility back and that she may need neurological surgery on her arm. Janssen took no responsibility for this condition. There is always risk in surgery, but anticipating debilitating outcomes is not one of them. This surgeon messed up plain and simple. His post surgery response is arrogant and demeaning. Think twice before using him.

I have had both knees replaced by Dr. Janssen, excellent job and care. No complications, full range of motion, excellent rehab and support. Couldn't be more satisfied with his staff and care received.

I had my left torn rotator cuff surgery done by Dr. Janssen 18 months ago. I was well pleased with both surgeries and the followup PT. I have recommended Dr. J to several friends who were having knee or shoulder problems.

Dr janssen is above far the best. He listens to you and helps with everything and is very encouraging.

I couldn’t ask for a better team. Dr Janssen explained what to expect before surgery and after. Dr Jansen and Gary are the best.

Dr. Janssen and his team not only provided a quick and correct evaluation, but got me in and out of Xray AND MRI in the same visit! (due to a cancellation). The surgery team was quick and efficient as well- I was in and back out on my way home in under 5 hours!
