Dr. Eric Thomas Lederer, MD

Dr. Lederer is a discriminatory, racist physician in Jacksonville, FL. I understand he may get unfavorable and difficult patients of a certain variety daily, but all patients should get the treatment and respect they deserve regardless of their background. I went to the ER at St. Vincent's for chest pain & palpitations. Looking to meet the ER physician, at first I was being treated only by a trainee paramedic attempting to draw my blood, along with a physician's assistant. I asked to see the physician, Dr. Lederer who then told me I was fine, while insinuating I came in to the ER because I did not want to go back to work. However, I went to the ER because I have never felt such symptoms such as the tightness in my chest or the feeling of near syncope. I asked for a urinalysis as well just to find out what was wrong, and why I felt unwell, and he implied he didn't care to find any illicit substances in my system. I proceeded to explain my symptoms to him but was ignored and… discharged from the hospital at once. Fearing for my life, I immediately went to another hospital that was thankfully nearby, where I was hospitalized for two days due to high levels of troponin in my blood. I spent those two days in the cardiac ICU due to the severity of my symptoms, and the abnormalities shown in my bloodwork. If I did not follow my instincts, I would not be alive today. Thankfully, I was treated by an actual physician at a different medical facility nearby, with actual real world medical experience in emergency medicine who took the time to ask me about my symptoms, perform an actual physical exam, review of systems, along with my family and personal medical history, came up with a few sound differential diagnoses, and came to an accurate conclusion as my actual diagnosis of a Non ST segment elevation myocardial infarction. As a result of my experience with Dr. Lederer and St. Vincent Hospital, it is in my honest opinion that Dr. Lederer's license to practice medicine should be revoked. I believe he hides behind his physician's assistant when he does not want to treat challenging cases. Thankfully I survived the ordeal and now a few months later, I am able to continue my education as a first year medical student. Upon graduating in a few short years, with the right medical knowledge and training I will comprehensively listen to and competently treat all patients with the appropriate care, and the utmost respect.
