My son has been really struggling with his mental health lately. I called to see if I could talk directly to him about my concerns and about a different medication to try to help my son. I got his nurse and explained why I needed to talk to him and was told that she would give him the message. When he did call me back he was very stern with me about me not needing to talk to him directly. He spent at least five minutes lecturing me on how I am to tell the nurse my questions, she will contact him, he will give her an answer, and she will then relay the answer to me. He proceeded to tell me that he has 800 patients and does not have the time to address my concerns directly. He did finally answer my questions but then went right back to lecturing me on wanting to talk to him directly. As a parent with a child with mental health issues I was really hurt and felt that he was not interested in how my son was struggling. I just wanted five minutes of his time to discuss my concerns. While I… can appreciate that he is busy, he’s patients mental health when that patient is struggling to get through the day, should be a concern for him and I don’t feel that he even cared. The doctor ended the conversation with a comment about how he hopes that he gets better. Maybe the doctor needs less patients so that he can find the time to give a more concerned and personal approach to helping his mental health patients that are children.
