Dr. Eric C. Segerberg

Dr. Segerberg performed what should have been a routine thyroid surgery to remove a tumor. The tumor was benign. When I woke up, I knew instantly that something was wrong with my throat. I was aspirating on my own saliva, couldn’t swallow solids, and was choking on water. My voice was barely a whisper. Dr. Segerberg lied to me for over a year saying my vocal chord was just bruised. It took a skilled laryngologist at Mayo Clinic two surgeries to put an implant in my throat to medialize the paralyzed vocal chord that Dr. Segerberg left me with. A full year of speech therapy followed to learn to project my voice and swallow foods. 28 years later, I still have to purée my food to swallow. Through it all Segerberg showed no compassion and lied to me about the vocal chord - denying it was paralyzed. The doctors at Mayo confirmed that he severed the nerve and paralyzed the chord which is permanent. Mistakes happen. But, not taking responsibility and helping a patient to find solutions is a… pathetic way to practice medicine. I wouldn’t trust Dr. Segerberg with an ingrown toenail. He lacks the skill, compassion, and honesty I expect in a surgeon.
