Dr. Eugene Hyseng Eng, MD

Dr. Eng has been my doctor for years. He and his staff are amazing. Always friendly and very professional. Dr. Eng recently removed cataracts in both of my eyes and also did lens implants. The whole process was great. It took no time at all and I was very fascinated with the laser treatment. There was no pain and I had no problems at all. It’s been about five weeks since both eyes were done. My vision is 20/20 in both eyes. Everything is so vivid and bright and even the colors are more amazing. I bought some readers for reading but I don’t need them all of the time. It was an easy, painless process. The drops before and after were the worse part of it all! Catherine Simmons

I saw Dr Eng with regard to having surgery to remove cataracts. Dr. Eng was very pleasant and seemed to be very knowledgeable about what options I had to choose from. However, his staff was a whole different problem. First of all, I was informed by his nurse that no health insurance company pays for the premium surgery procedure or the surgical facility charge. They also stated that they would not pay for the premium lenses. I called my insurance provider who stated they paid for all parts of the surgery, including the doctor's fees as well as the clinic's fees. The fact that I had to pay for the lenses was the only thing that was true. His nurse stated I needed 3 prescription eye drops and she submitted them to my pharmacy. One of the drops needed a preauthorization. I called the office and requested that the nurse contact my insurance provider and obtain the preauthorization for the drops. She told me that the process would take 3-4 weeks. I knew that was a lie as I have had many… drugs requiring a preauthorization, and the process took less than an hour. I asked for the billing code for the surgery, and she told me there was no billing code because they never submit a claim to the insurance companies because the insurance companies don't pay anything for the surgery. Upon contacting my insurance company, they verified that they do, in fact, pay for the surgery as contracted with the doctor and the clinic. I spoke with Missy, Dr. Eng's surgical office manager requesting a copy of all the documents I had signed. I was told that she would fax them to me on Monday, as this was a Friday and she was too busy. I have never received those documents yet - a week later. I informed Missy that I wanted Sara, Dr. Eng's nurse to call my insurance company for the preauthorization of the eye drops. Missy stated she would ensure Sara got this done. To date, she has never called the insurance company, and she never intended to do so. That's the reason the preauthorization took 3-4 weeks. I finally decided not to have Dr. Eng perform the surgery and chose to engage the services of another provider, as his nurse and office manager are totally incompetent, which did not reflect well on Dr. Eng. When I called to cancel the procedure, the receptionist said she would cancel my appointments. She never did that either. When I received a letter stating I had to pay a co-insurance - which I would not owe - at the clinic prior to surgery, I called the insurance and billing office. I spoke with Ann who told me that the surgery appointments had not been cancelled, but she would take care of it. I believe that Dr. Eng is a very good, competent surgeon. However, the lack of competency, attention to detail, refusal to fulfill promises, and misinformation provided by the nurse and the office staff left me with a feeling of a lack of trust and confidence that I would be provided the care that I would need for follow up appointments an post operative support from Dr. Eng's staff.

HE NEEDS TO LEARN NOT TO SPEAK WHILE OPERATING ON PATIENTS. RELIES ON MACHINES TO DETERMINE PATIENTS PERSCRIPTION INSTEAD OF USUAL WAY OF READING EYE CHART. OFTEN, AS IN MY CASE, THE RX WAS NOT CORRECT.

Dr. Eng saved my eye as well as my vision.

He has been the best doctor I have ever seen in 45 years. I have recommended him many times to friends and acquaintances .

My mother has macular degeneration in one eye & cataracts in both eyes. Before the cataract surgery, she was basically blind & could only see shadows. There was nothing the could do about the one eye, but she can now take care of some of her paperwork & watch TV. I know this doesn't sound like much, but to an 89 year old lady it means quite a bit. There is not a finer Ophthalmologist in the area. He a truly caring individual.
