Dr. Eugene C Fletcher Jr, MD

Let me first explain that I never actually had the chance to meet Dr. Fletcher. My regular MD referred me to him because she suspected I had sleep apnea. My appointment was made with Dr. Fletcher himself, but when I arrived I was told he couldn't see me and I would be evaluated by a nurse practitioner. Fair enough. She was a nice lady, took time with me, etc., but I had to schedule a second appointment, this time with Dr. Fletcher, so he could conduct an assessment as well. I felt like this was a bit of a waste, considering that they billed my insurance as a Specialists visit - $20 more than my regular $10 copay. My follow up appointment a couple weeks later was a quick one. Dr. Fletcher was out of the office again. I saw his NP who went ahead and scheduled a sleep study at Floyd. Was charged another $30 for a five minute visit. Long story short - the receptionist (a red haired lady) was the absolute WORST. I'm surprised more people haven't complained about her… because she was rude during both of my in-person interactions with her, and she was even worse when I had to deal with her over the phone. See, they scheduled my sleep study appointment, but the morning of my analysis, the hospital called and said that I needed to contact Dr. Fletcher's office. I spoke with the red-headed lady at his office who informed me that my insurance company refused to pay for the test. She said it was the "first time she had ever seen it". I called my insurance company who said it was rejected because they didn't receive what they needed from Fletcher's office. Once it was received, she near guaranteed that I would be approved based on everything else they had on record. Again, I called Fletcher's office, and the red-headed lady insisted that she provided the insurance company with everything available, and basically said, "Sorry about your luck." I cancelled my appointment at the hospital and rescheduled for a week or two later, hoping that Dr. Fletcher's office and my insurance company could get things worked out. Second appointment was cancelled too... called back and red-headed lady basically told me to get bent. I told me family Dr. about the incident and she scheduled me for an AT HOME study... one would think this would be more difficult to get insurance approval, but absolutely no problem whatsoever. Guess my doctor's office knows what they're doing. I would NOT recommend Dr. Fletcher to anyone, period. I understand that things happen and doctors sometimes must be out of the office, but twice in a row? His absence, to me, proves that he doesn't really care too much about his patients. And, as far as his receptionist goes, she is in desperate need of customer service training!
