Dr. Eugene Suengminn Pak, MD

My 93-year-old grandfather had a deeply upsetting experience with Dr. Pak. When I asked why he was treating my grandfather so poorly, he responded that he was "nervous and read the room wrong." He also argued with his Resident in front of us, abruptly changed the treatment plan, and demanded the Resident "present [research] now!" in an aggressive tone. As I left the appointment, Dr. Pak shouted at me to return, claiming I was "not hearing him right." His behavior felt unprofessional, jaded, and biased. In my view, he struggled to assess the situation or patient objectively. A telling moment came when the Resident followed me out and said, "I'm not sure why Dr. Pak was that way—maybe the moon alignment or something." Loma Linda University should take these concerns seriously. I hope Dr. Pak receives training in respectful communication, especially under pressure, and learns to treat both patients and Residents with the dignity they deserve.

Dr. Pak is, by far, the worst pain management specialist I have ever been involved with. I’d highly recommend staying as far away from this physician as possible. He came into my appointment with no meaningful treatment for severe pain. Issues that were supposed to be addressed from my primary care physician referral were not addressed at all. There was a lack of empathy and when trying to get answers he was often mute without response. He was rude and disrespectful throughout our time. It was extremely bizarre. Furthermore, this resulted in prolonged and poor treatment of my disability. Things got worse after my appointment. He had written notes completely differently than what I had stated. These notes were either taken completely out of context or did not happen resulting in filing complaints with LLUHC customer relations and addendums to his notes. I’m currently considering filing a complaint to the medical board on Dr. Pak’s license. I recommend you do the same if you’ve had a… similar experience. I’m concerned for others that see Dr. Pak. I consider him a dangerous physician. If you look up other complaints a familiar theme will start to emerge of harming others through his treatment. Ask for another physician and if LLUHC refuses the request, ask for an outside referral so you will not experience the same treatment myself and many others have gone through.

So miss Dr Pak here in Tx , He was always kinda and tried to get whatever it is going on CNS very compassionate just to sad He left but it was to better himself as a Dr just wish could find another neurologist that took time to talk and listen this was in 2015 it's now 2023 and I've been to so many other neurologist that hasn't given me the time of day just wish Dr Pak was closer because I'd definitely would trust him with my health, just glad to see He's doing well

Spoke to him today he refuses to prescribe narcotics for neuropathy he does not think it's a severe pain apparently he's never had neuropathy I guarantee you people out there who have neuropathy know that this is a very severe pain

I met with Dr. Pak for a telehealth appointment for pain, via Loma Linda. He had not looked at the specifics of my case. I have a recent CT scan of my knees and an MRI just over a year old, both available to him. I understand and agree telehealth is necessary, due to the pandemic. However, he spent our consult time on google, looking up information in my last doctor to show me, while also looking up rather graphic pictures of a nuerotomy knee ablation, which he described as my only option (via his expertise). He presented it in a terrifying way - he made it clear it was reported as “very painful,” with no sedation available (sedation of some sort is recommended and provided at other clinics). He made me feel like a drug addict for asking about the pain medication that has been part of my treatment regimen for a year and a half, taken sparingly and never misused - in fact, I had to take frequent drug tests during this treatment as per California regulations, to make sure the expected… amount was in my bloodstream. When I said I took the lowest possible dose, he said that meant I “didn’t need it.” Also, he said my gp would prescribemeducaif I “really needed it.” They do not prescribe it categorically at my general physician’s clinic - there are signs every where, they do not prescribe it at all and defer to a specialist. Fine. I asked about the cortisone shots I’ve received periodically throughout the past year and a half. He “doesn’t like them.” It’s ablation, which I’m frankly now terrified of, or nothing. He referred to himself as an “enabler” if he gave me either. It’s ablation or nothing. He also told me a different tactic I tried exactly per doctor’s orders for four months “should work” (it reduced inflammation but not pain), I’m implying I was not using it properly or lying about it. He did not ask about scans, physical therapy (which has helped), my 100 plus pound weight loss, or anything else, and cut me off when I described my pain and how it worsened over the day and often woke me at night. Overall, it was humiliating to be implied to be a drug addict and exaggerating the very real pain I suffer every day, as well as the consequences of depression symptoms exacerbated by chronic pain. Before I could ask about the partial knee replacement surgery I’ve been approved for in the past, and inquire about its efficacy versus nerve ablation, he cut me off by asking if I had questions or concerns. Yes, I did, and do, but you cut me off!! Not impressed and was very upset after this, and saddened that he is part of the Loma Linda team. He didn’t even offer to transfer me to another pain management doctor. So now I need to go back to my primary doctor, first appointment in two weeks, and try to start over. I am merely trying to put in4000 steps a day for exercise, throughout the course of the day, but it becomes so painful and my joints are so stiff after one or two days even my cardiovascular health is suffering.

I saw Pak about two years ago when he practiced in TX. I did so in order to get a second opinion regarding pain management. I was not seeking medication. I brought all of my records to verify my condition. He never looked at them and completely marginalized my condition. I must say that this guy was the most offensive, condescending doc I have ever seen. I would shoot myself if this was the only kind of doctor available. He is an absolute moron!

I went in with alot of questions.He seems to only want to do EMG.I want to show him,tremors are back.No movement in toes cant lift leg up,or get off floor.Had to call 911 for help getting up.Went in his office .He talked...Then he was finished His report says( In my opion she seems to be doing well.He never let me ask my questions or show him.The pain is back as strong as it was in 2010.Take 3baclofen a day.Was off of them.Yet nurse wrote my pain level was a 2.Called primary she looked at his labs said I was dehydrated.Then asked did you show your Dr you can't hold anything.I esplained he never would let me talk.I'm so confused.I went to him because the Foundation found him. My other Drs seem to understand I need knowledge of why things are happening.I don't want to be paralyzed again.Asked several times for a True Drs apt not just for testing.A private consults and my concerns.At the Foundation recommendations .Staff said Dr wouldn't see me for a consult.I really don't believe thats… true.Since Dr and Patient needs a repore.Not with staff.

After 26 years of being told different things Dr. Pak was very successful in locating my problem where others have not been able too.

I have been seeing Dr. Pak for the past three years. All I can say is that I am grateful for his care and attention. God bless.

I have never been so disrespected by a doctor in my life. He was very defensive when I questioned a diagnosis. I would really think twice before going to see him. He's a quack!!
