I reached out to Dr. Eugene Shapiro regarding my concern for my son with Lyme’s Disease. Dr. Shapiro called me that same morning. Unfortunately, after our brief conversation the end result was that he thought it would be best if my son see a psychiatrist. He told me that these physical and neurological symptoms have nothing to do with Lyme’s Disease. I continued to pursue answers and help elsewhere with another Lyme’s Specialist who has been very helpful. Fortunately, I didn’t give up. Results are definitively showing that he has Lyme’s Disease, which is impacting him neurologically and diminishing his quality of life. It was suspicious that he called me on the phone. But it’s all making sense now – he didn’t want to have any written documentation that he was telling me that my son needed a psychiatrist and this had nothing to do with Lyme’s disease even though he never evaluated my son, nor reviewed any lab work. How many people has he done this to? How many people has he denied? How… many families has he told that they should stop pursuing Lyme Disease as a diagnosis? How many people stopped trying to get help after someone with his credibility told them that’s not what it is, even though he hasn’t evaluated them or their labs? These are his conflicts of interest: • He was a named defendant in the Antitrust Investigation regarding the 2006 IDSA Lyme guidelines. • He is currently a named defendant in a civil RICO lawsuit against the IDSA alleging that he and others conspired with insurance companies to deny Lyme patients access to care. • He is paid by insurers to testify against Lyme patients. • He receives fees for testifying against physicians who treat patients with chronic Lyme disease. • He serves as a director of the American Lyme Disease Foundation, which represents the interests of IDSA researchers, not patient interests.

He was not helpful at all. I would never go back.

What a disgusting and shameful representation of a human being. Nothing but a corrupt criminal who is obviously more interested in money than in very sick children.

Absolutely terrible experience. Please do yourself a favor and stay away from this doctor.

Shame on these phony 'reviewers' below for attempting to mar this doctor's reputation for reasons other than a genuine critique of his performance. I can only assume that they are conspiracy theorists who believe vaccines are a money making scam designed to rip off unsuspecting patients, enraged by the doctor having taken part in a study which concludes with a recommendation of a 2 dose varicella vaccination for children.

Dr. Shapiro is a danger to the medical world and is totally out of touch with infectious diseases i would never go back!!

Dr. Shapiro is a self serving mean horrible person. He is all about the money and cares nothing about my child. He spent all of five minutes with us and then said he had a meeting and had to go. He did not answer all of the questions my daughter and I had. He was extremely rude. We will not be back.
