Eugenia Gianos, MD

Dr. Gianos is Professor of Cardiology at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra University and System Director for Cardiovascular Prevention at Northwell Health. She directs the Northwell Preventive Cardiology Fellowship and co-directs the Center for Prevention and Wellness of the Northwell Cardiovascular Institute. As a preventive cardiologist, she has a specific interest in patients with a genetic predisposition, heart disease at a young age, lipid disorders, and uncontrolled risk factors for heart disease. She also focuses on cardiovascular prevention in women through every stage of a woman's lifespan. Her main goal through education, research and clinical care is to recognize those patients at risk for cardiovascular disease and use clinical programs with individualized treatment through lifestyle and advanced medical therapies to improve patient outcomes. She is currently implementing strategies both at Northwell Health and in major medical societies to improve care …delivery for cardiovascular prevention. After earning an undergraduate degree in psychology from Barnard College at Columbia, Dr. Gianos earned her medical degree from New York Medical College. She completed her internship and residency in internal medicine, as well as her fellowship in cardiovascular disease at Northwell's Long Island Jewish Medical Center and North Shore University Hospital. Dr. Gianos is applying her expertise nationally as the Chair of the American College of Cardiology's Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease Council, as a member of the board of the executive board of the National Lipid Association and the American Board of Clinical Lipidology, Co-Chair of the NLA Lipid Scholars program and past Chair of the American Heart Association ATVB - Clinical Lipidology, Lipoprotein, Metabolism & Thrombosis Committee. Her goal is to improve the cardiovascular health of broad populations and particularly in women where a specialized focus is very much needed.
