I experienced less than 5 visits with a therapist and a nurse practitioner at this facility in 2013. The office manager refused to honor my HIPAA rights during transferring my records from past providers which hindered my coordination of care. Also, my therapist at the time refused to report a therapist who was actively abusing her clients and had abused me, which is under her ethical codes to do so (NASW). Because I asked for my HIPAA rights to be honored and for the abusive therapist to be reported, Evelyn Frye herself forced my therapist (who had just moved to her office from Kentucky) to terminate me against her desire and wishes (and ethical codes.) My therapist was physically shaking to tell me that I was refused care, telling me the complete opposite of what she had told me in session the week before. She told me because I couldn't "get past my trauma" of being abused by a therapist, that she was not able to help me, even though she was a trained trauma therapist with years… of trauma experience per her own words the sessions before. When I asked the therapist why the change in her story, she was barely able to speak and went out and brought in Evelyn Frye to the room. Evelyn Frye lied about both that therapist (in front of her) and about the nurse practitioner to my face without any emotion. (I know and can verify these were lies because I had recorded all of the sessions at that facility.) She told me to my face that the NP said I was doing great, yet the week before the NP had said any day now I would need other medication because she didn't believe I would stay emotionally stable. Evelyn Frye was condescending, disrespectful and had a smile on her face the whole time she was speaking these disrespectful things. She branded me a psychiatric diagnosis that I did not have (nor had ever had per my past psychiatrist's words) to discredit me. I told the therapist (after Evelyn left the room), that I understood that she was caught in a bad situation and I could tell it was not her who was initiating this dynamic, and she desperately said thank you (for understanding.) I was not allowed to receive any referral to another provider in Nashville, which is against ethical codes, though Evelyn said she would have a letter of referral sent to me that never came. I was terminated while taking a psychiatric medication with no provider to follow up on it or renew my prescription, which is also against ethical codes and extremely dangerous to stop a psychiatric medication abruptly. I asked them for names of people to go to for the medication, but was not given any. They told me to go to my PCP, but my PCP at the time would not prescribe psychiatric medications and I told them that, but they still did not give me any provider names. Just recently, I met another client who said that her particular therapist at the E.F. Center is also afraid of Evelyn Frye. It appears that Evelyn Frye creates a toxic, unsafe environment for the providers to work in. If you are a client with any of the providers there, how safe and effective is your therapy really going to be if your therapist is frightened of his or her boss? I find this business to be a grave danger to the clients and staff who work there because of Evelyn Frye's behavior, but also because the staff are apparently not mentally healthy enough to speak out against her behavior or report it. I do know of one therapist who quit and I honor her for that. Evelyn Frye keeps her business prosperous despite this "behind the scenes" dynamic. Every "hair is in place" and the waiting room looks like a million. She even had recorded messages on her phone system telling callers how ethical they are there. I fear for the staff and clients of this Center. If the therapist is allowed to do basic therapy services, the clients will at least get some help, but I don't see how it is possible to learn how to be mentally healthy from therapists and providers who are not and living in fear of an abusive relationship. My experience makes it clear to me that at any point in time if Evelyn Frye decides she does not like a staff or client's behavior or if someone asks for their rights, she will do the same thing again. In case you are wondering, I am just now writing a review on this business in 2015 because of fear of Evelyn Frye since I already experienced what she was willing to do against the law and her code of ethics, but I have to warn the public no matter the risk because now I know it is happening to others and not just to me and my therapist at the time. There is nothing false stated in this review. Sadly, it really happened and it is unacceptable behavior on the part of mental health providers.
