Dr. Frederick Mark Goodwin, MD

I had Dr Goodwin for total hip replacement in 2003. i told him i wanted a cementless hip replacement and he said he would try but may not work. I no longer have hip pain but still have knees issues and was supposed to return to him for knees to be fixed. He had to create my hip because it wasnt just a simple replacement because my left hip area was a lot smaller than my right hip area and had to have socket and hip ball created. I do not like doctors but he did a great job on my hip. I was walking and driving at 3 weeks. It was great not having hip pain anymore after having pain for 47 yrs from childhood accident at 3yrs of age. Had 13 staples put in my right knee to stop growth so left could catch up and it didnt work. One side of knee grew and one side didnt so it bowed my right leg. This was done because my left leg was 3 3/4 inches shorter than my right but it wasnt done correctly. So now im looking at having 2 knee surgeries because both are bad due to the hip problem of 47… yrs. And its not going to be simple. At this point the hip replacement was a great success and i am glad i did it. Now my knees swell up after 15 min on them and sometimes my knees go out and down i go. Dr Goodwin took out the staples which caused knee issues and reattached my kneecap. But the reason he fixed my hip was so he could fix my knees and i was supposed to go back sooner than now but i put it off as long as i could. I dont do any medications or napoxy sodium anything as i like my organs so i deal with the pain in both knees.

Doctor left floating pieces of bone and cartilage in knee after surgery. Told me he “lost it” and couldn’t find a marked piece. It turned up months later when the surgery swelling went down and I started having severe pain in my knee again. Knee began dislocating while going down stairs, my initial problem wasn’t nearly as bad at the post-surgery problems I was facing. Had to go out of state for a reconstruction surgery a year after Goodwin’s to remove the debris and fix the mistakes that were previously made by him. Several surgeons discussed my case and were appalled at the job. He put me in a full leg cast to lug around and I lost all of my muscle mass/had serious problems with swelling. I went from being an athlete to someone with a noodle leg. Second surgery to fix Goodwin’s job, the doctors had me in a locking, orthopedic brace and an ice machine. What a difference in care. Do your research. My knee will never be the same and I’m now a knee replacement candidate with… arthritis in my 20s because my cartilage is so worn down. Go somewhere else, find someone that has a plan before they cut you open.
