Had a shoukder replacement by Dr. Rick Matsen 5 days ago. The Ream & Run. Rick, his team, and the University of Washington medical department are simply amazing. After 2 failed surgeries, I’m now on the mend. A better life ahead. Efficient, top advice, and a truly caring experience.

Dr Matsen is not only a top surgeon, he has been doing shoulder replacement surgeries for many years and probably has done more of them than anyone in the country. His staff are all great, his physician assistants, Alex, and Janice are very on the ball and know what they are doing. His team works together like a well oiled machine, and they have all aspects of this procedure down to a science. You could not find a better surgeon/surgical team anywhere. As a bonus, he and everyone on his team are really kind and personable. This is the second shoulder replacement my husband has had with them, you can't believe how well the first one works, he was able to return to dong triathlons, and he is over 70 years old! My only negative is the less than ideal nursing care he received at the University Hospital where he does all his surgeries.

Even though reasonably fit and active my left shoulder was so stiff and painful. Could not sleep, tie my seatbelt, pull my own socks on. Dr. Matsen miraculously fixed it. Caring, personal, deeply involved in me recovery.

I had end stage arthritis in both shoulders and suffered from extreme pain and limited motion. Dr. Matsen performed the ream and run surgery on both of my shoulders four months apart. I now am pain free and can do the activities such as golf, water skiing, working out with weights. This surgery has been like changing.

Wonderful Doctor! Does least amount of surgery--conservative on this is good! Wish he would open and close as well but could not do as many if he spent time seeing!!

Dr/Professor Matsen is one of the premier shoulder surgeons in the world. His skill is beyond question, and his interest in his patients and his follow-up is second to none. When I first met Dr/Professor Matsen I was unable to use my left arm due to a number of shoulder surgeries by others, that left me completely unable to use my right arm. After a long and exhausting surgery, Dr/Professor Matsen restored my right shoulder, giving me near complete use of it. It is fair to say, that he gave me my life back. He is orthopedic "artist" and simply the most skilled and impressive surgeon I have ever met.
