Dr. Frederick Parke Oldenburg, MD

He is the Best of the Best! Thank goodness I had to be referred to him. Finally, a doctor who treated me with respect, and not just an old lady on Medicare. If you would like a doctor who listens to you, cares about you, and is an awesome surgeon, Dr. Oldenburg is the one you want! Thank you, Dr. Oldenburg for repairing my right ankle. Your care and instructions helped me obtain the full use of my ankle. I couldn't have done it without you!!

I went to him after a bone infection ruined my hip, pelvis and got into my spine and caused a spinal cord injury. By this time I was in a wheelchair and no hip replacement surgery could be done--there was too much damage and I had a non union femur fracture. I was having MRI's of my neck but he based his decision before my neurologist could send reports. His decision...keep everything as is and do no surgery (a hip disarticulation was discussed). Do no surgery, come to find out I had a spinal cord injury (C3) and autonomic dysreflexia had been brought on by the fracture and would not stop with the fracture. His decision of no surgery was clearly the wrong one. Autonomic dysreflexia is a life threatening situation. I had only seen him 2 times, and at his insistence, I was to go to the amputee clinic...where he screamed at me, told me he was not going to be my doctor and 'to get a shoe lift'. I left in tears and when I went to complain about him, I was told I couldn't. … Apparently he is in charge of PT and the Amputee Clinic and he can do whatever he wants. Bottom line: I think he is a jerk and would NEVER refer anyone to him.

I don't know...sometimes you like someone and sometimes you have a serious personality conflict. This guy seems to HATE me. I have seen him twice and both times he was just rude! I have a fractured femur...which he feels should just be left alone. I also had a broken neck (C4) and I guess the fracture (or series of fractures) has caused autonomic dysreflexia to be a serious issue. I guess he was wrong and now I don't know what to do. A Tad Mabry at the Mayo Clinic in MN also said to just live with the fracture. BAD and uncompassionate doctors in my opinion.

Dr. Oldenburg saved my arm. That is all that counts. As he put it in his prescription for OT, "Injury: shattered arm." He spent 5 1/2 hours reconstructing it. Lots of new, titanium parts and Osteoset. I can only say thank you. My rating of "Good" above for Bedside Manner rather than "Excellent" probably reflects more my loquacity than his lack thereof. I like to talk. I think he husbands his time, doesn't want to waste it chatting.
