Friedhelm Hildebrandt, MD

Friedhelm Hildebrandt, MD, is chief of the Division of Nephrology at Boston Children’s Hospital and a professor of pediatrics at Harvard Medical School. He is an internationally recognized leader in pediatric nephrology and human genetics, with expertise in hereditary kidney diseases, nephrotic syndrome, renal ciliopathies, and precision medicine for children with complex renal disorders. Dr. Hildebrandt earned his medical degree from Heidelberg University Medical School in Germany and completed his residency and fellowship training in pediatric nephrology at Marburg University Children’s Hospital, followed by research fellowship training at Yale University School of Medicine. A pioneering physician-scientist, his research has identified numerous single-gene causes of childhood kidney disease and advanced the use of genomic sequencing to improve diagnosis and treatment for pediatric patients worldwide.
