Dr. Gabriel Matthew Cuka, MD

The reviews are right. I wish I would’ve read them. I have bipolar disorder and anxiety. Have been on the same medications for over 10 years. Unfortunately my psychiatrist retired. Saw Dr Cuka and he immediately tried to change everything that had kept me stable for so many years. Treated me like an addict and said I needed to go to detox and get on newer medications. I’m not even on anything concerning like opioids or anything. I became unstable and almost ended up in the hospital before finding another psychiatrist that would keep me in my stable regimen. He wouldn’t help me and had no professionalism. He wouldn’t listen. I wouldn’t recommend him.

Dr. Cuka treated me like a drug abuser. I had been on the same medication and done well on it for many years. He appears to view all addictive substances as evil. He tried to rip me off of my medication even though I was doing well and never once abused it. As a result I lost my job and couldn't leave the house for months. I finally saw another psychiatrist and he put me back on the medication I had done so well on for many years and I got my job back and am back to enjoying life. Dr. Cuka did me great harm. I wouldn't recommend him at all.

I took my 10 year old child with ADHD to see Dr Cuka. He had testing for ADHD from a psychologist confirming the diagnosis. Dr Cuka refused to treat his ADHD saying that he doesn’t believe in ADHD and that it’s all bipolar disorder. Meanwhile, my son was flunking out of school and doing horribly. Dr Cuka treated my son like a drug abuser and drug seeker. I had to find another doctor. My son is now being adequately treated for his ADHD and he’s doing great. I wouldn’t recommend Dr Cuka. He’s not very compassionate, not caring, and doesn’t know what he’s doing.

He treated a family member and actually told them it was not all that bad to be somewhat "manic." Not really what I would have expected a doctor to say. This is a state in which a Bipolar patient makes irrational and impulsive decisions which can lead to some very harmful and/or dangerous situations. I would not recommend this doctor. We found another who seemed more sensible in the area of Bipolar Disorder.
