Dr. Gary Engstrom, MEDICAL, DOCTOR, MD

Dr Engstrom didn't have to be a generous to diagnose my Uncle's condition after what the CT scan showed and the biopsy didn't leave much to guess work, so nothing to rave about there for this Oncologist. The treatment plan for an extensive stage SCLC patient started with brachytherapy alone and no chemo for WEEKS. Here we are 6 weeks later and the patient, my Uncle has been admitted to the ER 3 times with no sign of Dr Engstrom. While my family has had to deal with the confusion of listening to one ER Dr after another discuss treatment options, we are told that "he never comes to the hospital before 7 pm". And yes I agree with the previous rater and believe he did not have the guts to tell his patient what could really be going on and he had to hear it from an ER physical whom he had never seen before. Uncle is about to be admitted to Hospice and doesn't understand how he deteriorated after just 2 cycles of treatment. As he struggles to breathe. ..He says "it would be nice to hear… from Dr Engstrom!" Needless to say my family is angry at the lack of compassion and general respect. ..any maybe even competence of this mediocre Dr with a "poor compared to national average" rating. Wish we had stated with another Physician from the beginning.

While Dr. Engstrom was accurate in his diagnosis of my father's condition, he avoided telling anyone what was wrong. When Dad was in the ICU, we were waiting for Dr. Engstrom to come out and update us on dad's condition. He not only didn't come out to see us but when I went to see what was going on, they said that Dr. Engstrom said "nobody was out there". In truth, he didn't come out. He was never honest about dad's prognosis and doesn't have the guts to tell someone that they are going to die.

Dr, Engstrom is kind patient, caring & answers your questions honestly, with tought, & with compassion with be uncaring. He has a heart & soul for the best care he can give for his patients & their family & friends. Best I have had the priviledge to be with. He tells you what can happen what might happen & what he & his staff will do to ease your mind so that you don't have any more stress than but become confident in your Dr. & your treatment. He is easily reached & answers your questions to the best of his ability but in a way that makes you feel safe & confident of full recovery. Best in Texarkana.
