Dr. Gary Craig Mallis, MD

I was highly disappointed in Dr. Mallis at the Scottsdale Children’s Urgent Care. We were visiting family and had to go to the Urgent care and Dr. Mallis was the only doctor available. He was rude, arrogant and condescending. Our son is 3-years old is in unexplained stomach pains, fever and vomiting. We were given an X-ray and then told it was just trapped gas and sent on our way. We were in and out within 18 mins and our son is still sick and in pain and now looking at possible appendicitis. He does not put thought or care into his little patients that come in. He specifically told us that we need to lay off carbs and bananas and then told us we just need to follow the BRAT diet (Bananas, Rice, Apple & Toast)? When questioned how this was contradictory to what he just told us, he didn’t even acknowledge it and told us “whatever he’ll be fine”??! I can’t express my dislike enough for this rude doctor and Children’s hospital needs to do some research before they hire pediatricians!… Simple search would show he is not effective nor does he have good bedside manners.

We have had 2 extremely bad experiences with him. If you go to Phoenix Children's Urgent Care and he is on duty, RUN! Both times I had to take my kids to the ER within 24 hours of seeing him. He does not do a full exam. One child gashed her arm open, he sealed it with skin glue without cleaning it out. This turned into a 5 hour trip to the ER with a nasty infection. They had to pick off the glue, re-open her arm and scrub out all the dirt he didn't clean out. The second child was screaming when he pressed on the right side of her stomach, his diagnosis - stomach flu. Ended up in the ER with possible appendicitis. Don't ever trust this man with the care of your child. It's time for him to retire.

I’ve never encountered such a terrible and arrogant Physician. He doesn’t care about children. Do not see him!

Do not go to Phx Children if Mallis on call! Rude and arrogant. Three yr old writhering in pain and he diagnosed "constipation." Xray done and showed NO blockage, but Mallis insisted constipation the culprit. All this, even though daughter was suffering with diarrhea, vomiting, stomach pain and fever. Mallis could not even come back into room what xray showed, instead telling us the "news" as we were walking back from bathroom! No time for questions, etc. He shoe'd us out and no "get well" - nada zip. No follow up instructions. Terrible experience. Daughter still sick. On to another ER!

Gary has no patience for children or scared parents who are coming to him for help and compassion. It is painful obvious that you loathe what you do. Your H&P is derelict and your bedside manner is disgracful. Your lack of respect for the parents who bring their children to you for help is abhorrent. This is not news to you, take the hint and get out of the patient care business.

Have been with Dr Mallis for 12 years through 2 international adoptions. He's been excellent. He's been in practice long enough to have seen a lot of patients and is good at diagnosis. His quick analysis can appear to be matter-of-fact and too fast. I find that's simply because he knows what he's doing. When I've had real concerns he's referred me to excellent specialists. Dr Mallis is a good practitioner, has lots of experience, knows his business. I would highly recommend him.

The only positive comment I can make is the office is extremely clean! Office staff seems to have a high turn around rate. My husband and I felt Dr. Mallis was very old school, old fashion, very black & white, rude and unprofessional! We stayed with him for 1 year and gave him several chances until one day he lost his temper with one of the staff members running the front desk and coudlnt beleive a Dr. would treat thier staff like that. He never gave us advice or when we would approach him about an article we read he always rolled him eyes and talked down to us. It was his way or the highway! Now I know why his wife runs the front desk/office because she is the only one that put up with his mood swings!

I'm sorry but I have to disagree with the nicey nice comments. There are always good reviews and always bad reviews, so I usually put little faith in the comments, but please be warned. If you are a first time mother, have a child with colic, have a circumcision you don't want messed up, or would like to be called back on a out of state cell phone without the MD nastily saying, "I don't call long distance" before even asking what the problem is, I would keep looking. Bed side manner goes a long way. You will always need to strip a newborn down to be examined by ANY MD, but you may like to keep them covered with a little blanket until the MD arrives in the room. The first thing out of the MD's mouth when he walks in the door shouldn't be "You need to lose that blanket." I never ever write reviews, but after my child's first 6 months, I had to go else where. Makes me wonder if he is in a solo practice because he doesn't play well with others.

I have 2 kids that have been his patient for 10yrs. He has done a great job, I would highly reccomend his practice! No complaints about anything!!!
