Dr. Gary Kent Person, MD

I saw Dr Person for many years until he relocated from Georgia to Florida. The only doctor I ever had who offered me effective pain management for IUD insertion

My preferred rating for MD Person gynecologist is negative infinite. I saw this doctor over a span of years in Athens GA beginning around 1990 through 1992. I told him to his face I would never go to another gynecologist because of him. On a human level the words rude, demeaning, cold, uncaring all immediately come to mind when this man enters my thoughts which is seldom these days and only now because my daughter is pregnant and living in Athens. On a professional level the words shallow, illogical, lazy, arrogant, and uncooperative stoke me as appropriate. I had not one but two nightmare experiences because of his incompetence. I was in extreme pain, lying in a hotel room with a heating pad. I was supposed to be on a work trip evaluating storm damage as an engineer. I could not get out of bed and after finally getting through to the office, getting an appointment and driving back to my home town for the appointment-all while in pain this is what I heard… the only thing wrong… with her is that she didn’t get the appointment she wanted… and a quote from him - probaby what is wrong is your jeans are too tight. I ended up having my right ovary removed. It stopped the pain but it was not the root cause. About eight years later I ended up in the hospital with a tubal pregnancy and the tubal ligation was done by - you guessed it MD Person. The excellent doctor who helped me through this ordeal also asked if I knew I had one (hip flexor I think) muscle that was noticeably shorter than the other? I did not but immediately realized it was this muscle mixed with long hours of driving and strenuous field work that caused my pain years earlier. Stay away from this man at all costs.

I saw Dr. Person when he was in Georgia. I wanted to follow him to Florida as finding a good ob/gyn is very difficult. I still haven’t found anyone as good as him, and that was back in 2012. He saved me from having to have a hysterectomy. He tried an IUD on my severe adnomyosis because he told me he was tired of removing women’s uteruses. I just loved him for that. He not only saved my uterus, but he stopped my horrid heavy cycles. I will forever be grateful to him for that! He is funny, polite and direct. All of this I found quite refreshing and also part of why I liked him so much. Thank you Dr. Person!

Dr. Person delivered 2 of my children. He is excellent. My last child was born when I was 42. He was especially careful with me. After my C-section I was struggling with feeling like I couldn’t breathe. Instead of just sending me to recovery he said I am taking you to recovery. I will never forget that.

I was a patient of Dr. Gary Person in Athens, GA from 1992 until a few years ago (2012?) when he moved to Florida. He was a wonderful doctor that delivered my three kids and took excellent care of me for many years. He is matter of fact and straight to the point. I appreciate that. He has a wonderful bedside manner and is very kind and considerate, but he doesn't put up with nonsense. (I know, I tried a few times when it came to needles. LOL). He has such a love of what he does his enthusiasm is infectious. From every ultrasound, listening to the heartbeat, to delivering the baby, you would think it was his first time because he is so excited about what he is doing and you can tell it brings him joy. He is very knowledgable and a straight shooter. And bonus, he saved my good friends life who almost died delivering with his quick response and ability to command the OR efficiently. He is missed in Georgia.... Go Dawgs!

Dr. Person used to treat patients in another area and this is where I saw him(he delivered my baby & was my gynecologist). He is so good that if I could afford to, I'd fly to Florida where he is now, just to receive my ob/gyn services. Things have not been the same since he left. He is one of the 2 only MDs I've ever saw that seemed to genuinely care about me, my needs, my well-being and also one of the only ones that genuinely listens to you. With regard to birth control, he did my IUDs(Mirena & the like) and I never felt a thing ...This is one reason why I said he is sorely missed, because since he's been gone, and I have to see another doctor to have the same procedure done, I am in pain ...a pretty good bit of it too :(. He is extremely knowledgeable & experienced, knows what he is doing & truly cares about you as an individual. He also makes you feel comfortable and not awkward at all. He was so good to me that I remember actually being shocked, pleasantly shocked, at his… attentiveness, and good nature towards me. Once again, and I think this says it all, if I could, I would absolutely without a doubt 100% go through the trouble of flying to the city/state he is in now every single time I needed to see an obgyn ...and believe me, I wish I was in that position. :) :) :)

Dr. Person was my family's ob doctor when we were in Athens. There was an extremely difficult situation at the time my son was about to be born. I had high confidence in him and my son's birth went smoothly even though it was an unusual occasion.

The physician was extremely rude and demeaning. When faced with a differing opinion from another physician, Dr. Person was openly scornful of the other physician and attempted to be manipulative in forcing his treatment plan on the patient. He was insulting to the patient when the patient had legitimate questions. He may be very knowledgeable in his field, but he is one of the most unprofessional and uncaring physicians around.

Dr. Person is, in my 52 years, one of the best OB/Gyn doctors I've ever had. He has great attention to what you say and truly listens. If he doesn't know something, he will tell you and learn...when you come back with a follow up he has the answers. He cares and he is an excellent doctor. A rare find these days. He saved me from needing a hysterectomy and gave me a new freedom that I hadn't had in years.

I just moved to Georgia and had to be rushed to the hospital. While there Dr Person visited me as he was the OBGYN on call. He was horrible! Extremely rude and even said "I don't understand why I'm even seeing you". I have a lifelong issue with chronic heavy menstrual bleeding and bleeding between periods. I was using hormones to control the bleeding and developed a blood clot. The hospital staff was concerned about giving me blood thinners because of my history of bleeding. This "doctor" had the nerve to say "I don't know why I'm seeing you". He was rude and dismissive. My organs were starting to fail and I was in danger of losing my leg to the clot - the LAST thing I needed was a doctor with a dismissive and crude bedside manner. He acted as though my situation had disrupted his life and treated me like a useless annoyance.
