Dr. Gary Neal Woodall, MD

This guy didn't listen to my issues and said it was all anxiety and then didn't give recs when I asked for them. His bedside manner and tone of voice is awful. Not as bad as his front office though! They wouldn't pick up the phone if their life depended on it.

I've been a long time patient of Dr. Woodall and I thought he was an adequate doctor. After I moved to Northern California in beginning of 2020, I continued with Dr. Woodall whenever I would visit San Diego. But I was astonished with his poor decisions in late 2020. He denied me a short term renewal of blood pressure medicine. During this time, my blood pressure rose to a dangerous level. I called to arrange a physical appointment on my next visit to San Diego at the earliest possible opening. I was later told I was no longer a patient of Dr. Woodall. I just couldn't believe it that I was fired as a patient with no reason given. Gross negligence! Stay away! And seriously no telemedicine or phone consultations offered. Move with the times. Oh and be wary of the office manager David as the other online complaints say.

I am writing because I was shocked to see that this doctor is not rated 5 stars. I have been going to Dr. Woodall's office for years and have never been disappointed with the care I received from any member of the staff there. They are all very professional, timely, and caring. I set a high bar for medical professionals, and have been perfectly happy here. Highly, highly, recommend.

I needed a refill, called Dr Woodhall's Office left a message. My call wasn't returned. I called back ten days later. My insurance company had changed. Hector told me the system would automatically update. I voiced concern because I was almost out. Hector told me he "didn't have time to argue" and put the phone down on me. I've changed doctors.

Worst doctor ever. 5 weeks to get someone in his office to even talk to for an appointment. Only unreturned voice mail.

Tried for a month to get an appointment. Always sent to voice mail. No calls returned. Finally had to contact my insurance provider and af to er difficulty they reached him. So after 5 week just trying to get an appointment they said I could see him in 6 weeks. Primary care HMO physician??? Worst staff ever!!!

With a change of different insurance plans I had to change doctors. I was abroad for four years and now Back in Sd. I can’t wait to get to get back to the efficient, top tier service of Dr and Gary Woodall.

Professional lacking beside manner: God complex who does not welcome patient dialogue about treatments, testing, etc. Doesn't treat the whole patient. Lacks empathy. Staff provides more answers than him.

I have been a patient for many many years with Dr. Woodall. But I have to agree with most of these reviews, recently things have changed. Just like the last review, I also received a separation letter stating Dr Woodall would no longer provide medical care to myself after I walked into he office asking to speak to Dr Woodall or David, the office manager. I was very frustrated about the medical supply company they use Super Care (which is the only one I can use). I needed clarification and better understanding of the HMO procedures. I did not curse, yell nor was violent in anyway. I was told they were both at lunch still so I waited patiently and silently in the waiting room. My meeting with David went well (so I thought) and Jody (receptionist) even called me over as I was leaving to clarify my authorizations.....next day I received a letter saying not to come back again and find a new doctor. So I need medical supplies which require an authorization, my 3 month blood work is… needed for my diabetes and liver and my medications need refills. Ive email twice via the portal and in person once and no reply back yet. Its been 6 days now. I will be filing a complaint with the Insurance company as well as the Medical Board too if I don't receive my meds and authorizations. He would only see me until Dec 26th for emergencies only. I think these qualify as emergencies. I am hurt and disappointed in his actions especially without talking to me first or discussing it. A few years ago when his office error'd and was rude to me, I was going to leave his practice and he asked for a second chance.....I gave it to him. But I didn't get the same respect in return now. All I was asking for was to talk to him.

I called my doctor to call in an Rx of antiviral medication that Dr. Gary Woodall had prescribed me in the past for a cold sore. The Doctor never got back to me after 2 days so on my way Christmas shopping I stopped by the office to ask if I could get my prescription called in and was asked to meet with his nurse in a patient exam room. The nurse looked at my mouth and said I needed to make an appt. I said if I have to I would make an appt but I felt it was patient gouging to ask me to pay for a visit when you can clearly see it was a cold sore and the nurse said " yes we call that ugly face" we laughed when the nurse said let me speak to Dr. Woodall and see what he says. A few more days passed and I called asking if I could make an appt since no one had called me back. I was told that there were no appts available for a week so may I have the approval to go to urgent care and was told "no" I could only go after hours. This to me is unresponsible and punitive and poor patient care. I… ended up not going since I work nights 4p to 11:30p. I called today to make an appt and was told I was sent a separation letter. I have filed a complaint with my insurance company and am forced to find a new doctor. Do not choose this doctor if you have any opinion about self-advocacy and how your care needs to be managed.
