Dr. George Cleland, MD

Dr. Cleland started out by ordering lab tests and CT scans for the condition he was seeing for my sister in law. He did spend about one hour examining my sister in law, telling her that her previous primary care provider ignored her symptoms and ordered a medication that could be hiding a life threatening condition, Then when my sister in law went to the hospital for the tests he ordered, some of the lab results were alarming. He had her admitted to the emergency room. He had no further contact with her or the emergency room doctor. In fact the emergency room doctor stated to my sister in law that she didn't know why Dr. Cleland had her sent to the emergency room. When I suggested that she call Dr. Cleland to find out her lab results as she is feeling extremely ill and asked why he had not come to see her after office hours or even called the emergency room to see how she was doing, he was heard in the background becoming angry and told the nurse to tell my sister in law to go back to… work without any explanation as to why she has abnormal lab tests, is extremely short of breath, difficulty walking, lab tests show blood clots in lungs, lab tests show oxygen level of 80 %, again extremely low. This is a case of patient abandonment in the worst case. He will be held liable if she suffers from his lack of medical care. I am a CCU/ICU/ Nursing Instructor, and RN for 27 years. Dr. Cleland appears to be an "office doctor" only. Do not waste your time, insurance money or your life going to this doctor. He really rates a minus star

I have been going to many different Dr. in the Athens area for the past 6 months. I promise you it seems like the spend 3-5 mins in the room, run test, then send you packing. This Dr i can say from my experience has been EXCELLENT. I saw the other reviews, and did my own research but realized he has been in business for 20+ years and drives a 10 year old Toyota van he is doing medicine for the love of it. That is the kind of service i am looking for. I don't want a dr that is pushing medicine in my face. I am not a difficult patient and i know i have alot of medical issues so i am willing to come and get the help i need to the dr can help me or prevent me from getting sick. So the extra one on one time i get with Dr. Cleland is only a dream. So if you are tired of feeling like your on an assembly every time you go to Dr office. You may want to make at least one appointment here and make your own judgement. He is OLD SCHOOL, and that's what medicine now days is missing. I called back… to make sure my appointments were on track. After all its my job as the patient to make sure i keep my appointments. Good luck if you in the Athens area find a Dr willing to work with you.

I would never recommend this doctor to anyone. I had the worst experience of my entire life. I was his patient for a couple of years, but I only needed his services on two occasions, because I am a fairly healthy person. I went to his office for a relatively common condition. I explained that I had that condition before and he prescribed so many medications that I got sick for almost a week. When I returned for a follow up he told me that all the tests came back negative, so, I didn't even need those meds in the first place. He deliberately withheld information from me because, I think, he didn't know what he was doing. When I asked him why I was still having symptoms, he said the most outrageous things. I agree with the reviewers: he does not listen, he is unskilled, he withholds information and he makes a diagnosis based on unsubstantiated assumptions.

I was a patient of Dr. Clevland back in the year of 2011 for a short period of time. And my overall experience was extremely poor. His staff consist of 3 women. I was miss diagnosed several times by him. He doesnt listen to you when you tell him about your medical history. When test results come back, they take forever to call you back with results. overall this is not the best doctor. he is just a doctor who wants to make money and not help his patients with their needs. I would gladly recommend any other doctor in the area, but NOT him period!

Dr. Cleland was very thorough in his examination. He was also one of the most compassionate physicians I have ever seen. I would definitely recommend this doctor to any one seeking high quality medical care.

This doctor is inconsiderate and very unskilled. His waiting room is filthy and staff is incompetent. He'll make you feel like you are about to die, when you probably have nothing but a common cold!

Office/waiting area was nasty looking and then they told us it would be a 3 hour wait... couldn't understand what the secretary was saying.. no i would not recommend this place.
