Dr. George Hansel Godwin III, MD

My dad was sent to Dr. Godwin to have tubes put in his ears. Dr. Godwin examined him on his 50th birthday. He told my dad that he did not need tubes in his ears. Dr. Godwin ran a scope up his nose and did a biopsy. The biopsy at Decatur General came back negative. Dr. Godwin said he was 99% sure it was cancer - he froze a sample and sent it to another lab - the result was that my dad had a rare form of nasopharyngeal cancer. Dr. Godwin asked where my dad wanted to go for treatment. My dad said Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. Dr. Godwin could have easily stopped with putting tubes in his ears. He could have stopped when he received the negative result. He did not stop and because of that my dad lived another 24 years. My dad had many other health problems and he received some excellent care, and some not so excellent care, from other doctors, but if it had not been for Dr. Godwin's persistence, my dad would have died a long time ago.
