Dr. Gilbert B Tunnell, PhD

I am now in my 50's, but I met Gil when I was 18 years old and decimated by complex trauma. I found myself thinking about him today as I authored an article about the termination process of therapy, as I am a psychotherapist and writer. It brought me back to my work with him. I am forever grateful for the gentle and authentic guidance Gil offered me for over a decade. I was extremely fortunate to have connected with him at the onset of my challenging journey of recovery. His humanity and compassion helped me through the worst of times and established a foundation for my arriving at a place in my life where I feel fulfilled and at peace.

Couples therapy must be the most difficult modes of all. I suspected he’d take my husband’s side since I was acting out and angry. He listened to us both, gently reframed entrenched positions, helped build trust. He recommended books when necessary, supported us and a couple. We wouldn’t be together without his humble support in and out of session. I can’t imagine him cursing, he is not labile or impatient.

Dr. Tunnel is a warm compassionate therapist, helpful and responsive. I highly recommend him.

By far the most humiliating and horrendous moments of my life, forced upon my family and me by Dr. Tunnell, a man we trusted. A doctor who loses his temper, curses at his patients, and betrays their trust is not someone I would recommend. Stay away, stay far away.
