Dr. Gisa-Beate Angela Schunn, MD

She made really bad decisions during my Mom's treatment for esophageal cancer, resulting in rapid spread of the disease. During this time, she made it sound like her cancer was in a stable condition, neither getting better nor getting worse. When in reality, it was spreading like wildfire. Her inability to communicate facts accurately caused my mom to suffer tremendously in her final hours when we should have been better prepared by Schunn to put my Mom in hospice care. Our appointments were at the VCI Harborside location and my poor Mom would have to wait between 1 to 2 hours to even be seen. Do not risk your loved one's care and treatment with her.

My mom was referred to Virginia Cancer by her PCP for low blood levels and significant bruising. Dr. Schunn drew labs and told her to eat better and come back in a year for repeat labs. Less than a year later my mom died from advanced AML. Nine months after her appointment with Dr. Schunn she went into the ER for a severe persistent cough. She had a severe fungal infection because of her compromised immune system. The ER noticed the same low blood levels and did a bone marrow biopsy. They diagnosed her with advanced leukemia and transferred her to a neighboring hospital (VCU). She died 5 weeks later from AML. If Dr. Schunn had paid attention to my mom and her symptoms, ordered a simple test, my mom may have survived AML. Please skip seeing this doctor. We loved my mom's entire treatment team at VCU.

Sure, she knows what she is doing. But she will inevitably make you wait 3 hours for appointments. Lacks sense of humanity, when it gets down to it.

Our last visit was preceded by a two and three quarter hour wait. That was our final visit with this doc. Sure she spends time with her patients. So far, she has been trying to convince us that I have a type of cancer that she is quite familiar with. However, no other institution agrees with her. I would recommend that Richmond seek high quality docs by investing in real research. Shame on Richmond. Go ahead and remain a third world healthcare empire.

It is very unusual to find specialists, in this day and age, who take the time to investigate and then share information with a patient until the patient understands the process. She is a rare gem and I feel fortunate to have found her in Richmond VA!

Treated disease on a planned schedule with new chemo specifically based on my age and previous treatment. Very detailed explanations of all bloodwork results. Very courteous and professional. Now in remission and on maintenance schedule.

Dr. Schunn and her staff are great! Bonnie is wonderful also!
