Dr. Giuseppe Flavio La Spina

My dad was diagnosed with a glioblastoma on Nov 16 (aggressive terminal brain cancer).He is 82 and is declining. Dr LaSpina saw him on Dec 5 and looked us in the eye and told us he would be willing to help in any way. Fast forward to today, my dad needs assistance to ambulate and sit up and home health is requesting an order for a hospital bed, but this MD will not sign the order without seeing him in person. He refuses to do a video visit. Home Health and PT have done the eval he needs - he just needs to sign the order- and he will not. His staff has zero triage skills. By definition, a glioblastoma is aggressive, and the decline is typically quick, but his staff thought it was funny to question that my dad was walking on Dec 5 but struggling now on Dec 30. Obviously, they need some triage education. The doc's words today 'you need palliative care.' Apparently, he quits on his patients and family one month into a terminal diagnosis. Run, as fast as you can, from this office. They do… not care about you at the end of your life.
