Dr. Grace Niklas, MD

After confirming my eligible insurance and the fact that she was indeed open to taking on new patients, Dr. Niklas stood over her secretary's shoulder and, speaking through her secretary, refused to make an appointment with me because I explained to her that we were hoping to get an appointment in sooner than later before we temporarily moved out-of-state for the summer. It felt weirdly judgemental and exclusive, maybe even discriminatory (?) how she continued to deny us and question our life plans to determine if we are legitimate and will be able to meet with her as PCP on an annual basis. Almost pleading, I explained that both my husband's parents and my parents live in Hingham, that we grow up here and actively live here, and that we will be more than able to meet with her every year for an annual check up as we are explicitly and exclusively Hingham-based. I explained that the only issue is that we are leaving town in a month (for the summer) and are hoping to get an appointment… in with her before our departure. She refused us an appointment because she was stuck on the idea that we are relocating for the summer and may never come back? I was compassionate towards her secretary who had to be the middle-man through this whole unkind interaction, parroting Dr. Niklas' withholding and illogical reasoning, but, after growing up in this town and seeing its darker sides (classist, discriminatory), this felt reminiscent and very "Hingham" (in a pejorative sense). And I say this as a bread-and-butter Hingham person lol. Any way, it was incredibly bad vibes, but even beyond that, it was just kind of d*mb. Like there was no critical thinking on her part or willingness to hear us and update her understanding when I tried to explain our situation (mind you-why am I having to explain so much of my life plans to such a Karen?!) Dr Niklas has been my primary care doctor for many years. It is easy to make an appointment. Dr Niklas is very knowledgeable and thorough.

I’ve been going to the office for 5 years and see a marked difference in the way the office is run. On time visits Cheerful and genuine. Still don’t line they don’t do labs the same day as check ups. Rescheduling another appt is absurd.

I went in for my annual physical as a new patient. I was charged for an office visit due to the fact that she asked me a ton of questions about everything and I happened to answer yes to one of the questions she asked. She discussed with me for under a minute about the issue and "recommended" treatment without prescription. Then on my way out the door she "offered" me a sample of something that might help. Apparently to her she could justify that as an office visit more than an annual physical which was placed to my insurance as an annual physical and an office visit. I will never recommend her to anyone or go back there. Except to get my records which I am sure will be a hassle.

HORRIBLE front staff! RUDE, IGNORANT, LAZY & DISORGANIZED. So rude that my blood pressure would always be higher than average than usual and compared to any other doctor's office I have been in. Since I switched, BP back to normal. THAT'S how bad her staff is, especially one in particular, the rest are disorganized & lazy....definitely NOT a professionally run office. I don't understand why the doctor doesn't address the issues re: the front staff and lets them carry on like that to the patients? The doctor has a nice personality and is 'ok' at best, - when she is doing her thing (testing, etc) However, I have low cholesterol and low sodium, yet she recommended low sodium/low cholesterol diet?! seriously? I do have another health issue that another 'recommended' diet would be helpful to, but no recommendation on that and she doesn't do any extra researching, so to speak or recommends a specialist, if that was the case. IMO go at your own risk. All the reviews seem to be… pretty accurate more/less. The staff in itself is simply not worth your time or aggravation.

I find her very good and love to see her. Nice Nice Doc.

she is a wonderful caring doctor. listens to you, never rushes you. Recommends specialists that have worked out great

does not share results of tests with you. Keeps patients in the dark. Not very compassionate or caring. In and out. doesn't listen. Seems to be there just for the money

I find Dr. Grace to be a good doctor. I have been going to her for over 20 years. I have to agree that the receptionist isn't pleasent. However, I am happy with Dr. Grace, so I will continue to have her as my primary care doctor.

As many people have stated here the receptionist is rude to the extreme both in person and on the phone; how she keeps a job I have no idea. I was in the habit of making my appointments for first thing in the AM thinking I would beat the lines. Big mistake... You show up at 8 AM for your 8:15 appointment and end up waiting 40 minutes before Dr. Niklas even shows up. Then you wait another 15-20 in an exam room and then a rush job out the door. I've never really been a sickly person so I had never gone to the Doctor for regular visits. Now that I'm older and going for a few checkups a year, I'm finding that what I've come to accept as normal is really sub par. I've given this Doctor the benefit of the doubt one too many visits and have decided to find a new Primary Care.
