Dr. Gregg Berdy, MD

I have tried for several days to get an appointment but no one answers the phone. I mean no one. No matter which option I choose on the phone. I have left several messages for a call back but still not response. I guess I'll be going elsewhere...

This doctors' office has multiple people signed up for the same appointment time, and herds them through their system at the speed of a glacier.

I have been going to Dr. Berdy for years as a contact lens patient. I recently called about a vision issue and was seen that day without an appointment. Dr. Berdy correctly diagnosed a rare condition and got me immediate treatment that saved me from total vision loss. He spent several hours with me, that made him late for other patients, I’m sure, but he was calm, reassuring and kind. He’s an excellent doctor!

As many have said, the 3-4 hour wait times, all three times I've been here, are ridiculous. The last straw was when I was to buy a product from their office for $35 because they refused to seek an insurance pre-approval. My Insurance charge was $12 so it would cost me three times more to purchase from them! They did the approvals the year before so it was just them seeking profits. So happy to have switched where I'm respected.

Dr. Berdy took his time in explaining what he was going to be doing with the two surgeries that I had scheduled and performed by him. He makes sure you understand what is going to happen during the surgery before scheduling a surgery. He is a very kind, friendly and knowledgeable man.

Wait time is ridiculous - my time is valuable as well but that certainly isn't the feeling I get from this physician. There are many other good opthamologist in the STL area - go see them you will thank me

I loved having Dr.Berdy do both my cataract surgeries and Multifocal Intraocular Lenses so I do not ever need glasses. I could even tolerate the delayed times of appointments exceeding an hour usually even for surgery. He is a brilliant specialists. What I did not appreciate was after surgery I could only see the Optometrists for follow ups and any issues I had. Only if Dr.Royer felt I needed Dr.Berdy did I get to see him. When I tried to make appointments to follow with Dr.Berdy I was told no, that I needed to see one of the Optometrists. So, I only got to see Dr.Berdy if I required surgery or Laser. I tolerated it for about 6 months after my 2nd surgery. I was really upset because I felt he should have seen me at my requests considering I chose him for my Doctor. I also was having lots of dry eye issues effecting my vision that were not taken care of with suggestions of Dr.Royer and I was very upset. I asked about Punctal Plugs and was told to continue doing the things he told me. … On my final/last visit with this office I was told by Dr.Royer some things that I found hard to believe. I was told my lens was off centered and that I needed Laser already in my eye I had just had cataract surgery in three months prior. Dr.Royer said this is why I was having multiple vision issues. He also had given me 7 diagnosis which I did not understand and when I tried to ask about it it was brushed off, not answered and he kept talking to the scribe which was the normal way for him when I came. I felt disrespected all the time. I had complained of needing a solution for my dry eyes for over a year. I chose not to let them do any more surgery. I saw a new Opthamologists and showed him the list of issues I was told I had and the list of things including several prescriptions that I was to do daily for the rest of my life according to Dr.Royer. The new Doctor quickly let me know my lens was not off centered and I did not need Laser...there was no beginning of any cataract showing to even remotely suggest the need of a Laser procedure. He told me to stop doing everything I was told to do previously. He put Punctal Plugs in my eyes and it solved every complaint I had in under 48 hours. I have not needed even eye drops since then. My vision is now perfect as it should have been after my surgeries. Having Punctal Plugs replaced twice a year is a wonderful solution. Although I loved Dr.Berdy he is ultimately responsible for his patients and the way the office is run. I felt very disrespected and lied to by Dr.Royer and should have been given the choice to only see Dr.Berdy.

This doctor is VERY discourteous to his patients in regards to the wait time not only in his office but at the surgery center where my procedure was done. I was asked to arrive 1 hour prior to my surgery and this doctor did not arrive at the surgery center until 1 hour after my surgery was supposed to begin - I was told I was his first patient and that this was not uncommon for this doctor. There are a number of ophthalmologists in the St. Louis area - I would RUN to another one and never see this doctor or his associates again!!

Like many, I was there several hours past my appointment. I have Keratoconus and was looking for a doctor to do crosslinking. My story is why it's important to have second opinions. I already had a second one scheduled when I went to see Dr. Berdy He immediately confirmed my diagnosis and that I was a candidate. Then he sneezed into a tissue several times------and did not wash his hands before continuing the exam. Now, he didn't touch my eye, only the machines, but that was still a red flag. I caught a glimpse of my sister's face with her mouth open, knowing she was saying "Oh heck no, you're coming to MD to have this." I compare that to my other eye doctors who immediately come in and wash their hands. He immediately was ready to sign me up for crosslinking, but something just didn't feel right and I said I would get back with him. When I went to a second opinion in another state (MD) the doctor discussed not only crosslinking both eyes, but using a secondary… procedure to work at regaining some of the vision is my worst eye. It was key to me that Dr. Berdy never discussed such a procedure to help me regain anything. When I did further research, I did learn that some opthamalogists were using additional procedures to regain loss. It confirmed my impression of being slightly rushed into doing the procedure and the feeling of it was a push for numbers for his crosslinking study. Also, these online reviews played a role. Needless to say, I am going with another doctor.

You can schedule your first appointment in the day 8:30, but he comes to the office after 10:00 AM. A complete disregard to the patient's time. He may spend 10 to 15 minutes with you once you see him but you have to wait for 3 to 4 hours that is normal in his office. He seems to enjoy seeing you wait for some reason. The first patient of the day is expected to wait 2 hours before he/she can be seen. Don't be fool by those expensive commercials.
