Dr. Gregory William Smith, MD

I broke my kneecap on October 27th, in Austin, where a doctor placed me in a brace advising me to adjust to 30 degrees after three weeks and to see and doctor closer to home. I chose Dr. Smith based on a recommendation of a friend. I would give more stars to the staff and techs at the clinic, but not for Dr. Smith. He treated me like just some old woman and spoke only in the negatives at my first visit (November 7th). He spent most of his time (after I told him I preferred the 50% non-surgery option), telling me all the things I could not do, ignoring my history, and he never even showed me my x-rays at either visit (the second visit November 28th). Had I taken his advice I would have been in my leg brace in full lock position for 7 weeks longer than I ever needed, including over the holidays. He did not take in consideration any of my abilities or strengths and instead asked me to keep my leg totally rigid except in bed, when seated, or in the shower. I got a second opinion less… than two weeks later (December 13th) and this doctor said remove the brace then and there, but I opted to trust my PT and myself. I stopped using the brace 7 weeks after the break – 6 weeks earlier than Dr. Smith recommended and it has gotten better and better every day. I am back to walking, working out at the gym and doing almost everything except stairs (one step at a time to avoid pain). There is still discomfort but every day the pain is less and less. Had I kept the brace locked, I would be just beginning full recovery mode until the third visit with Smith (yesterday January 18th).

My visit with Dr. Gregory Smith was one of the worst experiences I have ever encountered with a doctor. The lady responsible for scheduling appointments was incredibly rude to me. I waited for 1 hour and 20 minutes to see Dr. Smith. The office was completely PACKED and only minimal effort was made to make sure patients were safe from exposure to Covid-19; some patients were even waiting in their cars to be seen, and a lot of people were coming in and out of the waiting room. After waiting over an hour, Dr. Smith greeted me with a handshake, which has been advised against to avoid the spread of Covid-19. Additionally, Dr. Smith refused to wear a mask, and when confronted about this, stated "I do not want to wear a mask". It is mandatory for healthcare providers to wear a mask in the state of Texas. He showed zero concern when I asked him if he was worried that he was exposing patients with autoimmune disorders to a deadly virus. I have a Baker's Cyst and was told this facility could… drain the cyst for me to relieve the extreme pain I am in. I had an X-Ray done on my leg even though I already had one done. He refused to drain my cyst and said nobody drains cysts anymore, which is a blatant lie because I have had these drained many times in the past by my doctor in Kentucky. Dr. Smith was pushing me to have surgery even though I know I do not need to have surgery. He did not want to listen to me and at one point, became very aggressive with me. After my appointment, I asked the lady at the front what could be done to help with the pain I am in and how long it would take to have the MRI done, and her response to me was, "ma'am, everyone here is in pain here". I was dumbfounded by her response and lack of compassion. I left that office in tears. I have never felt worse about a doctor's visit in all of my life. Not only did I feel exposed to the deadly virus, I felt that nobody in that facility had any remorse to how much pain I am in or an interest in helping me. The office was supposed to call me to make an appointment, but I have yet to hear back. I will never step foot in this facility again and advise anyone to seriously reconsider their visit with Dr. Smith.

I went in with minimal pain for a consultation ended up having to go to Er after he was done with his so called procedure. He got angry I complained about the pain he caused and proceeded to ask me to leave his office rudely! I've never been treated this bad ever in any place of business, much less an orthopedic surgeon who knows the pain people may be in. Do not by any circumstances allow this crack pot dr touch you or your family in any way! Pursuing a complaint.

Dr Smith operated on my shoulder, the results were excellent (100% recovery). He also replaced both of my wife's knees with great success.
