Dr. Gillian M Betterton, MD

I should have known by all the horrible reviews what to expect, but I wanted to give her the benefit of a doubt. I can forgive her rushing through the appointment (doctors are busy and I respect that), and I have no problem with doctors being straightforward and to the point... She, however, was incredibly dismissive about everything I had to say and did a really poor job at explaining or communicating any information about anything to me. What little information she did give was contradictory, and it seemed like she didn't even bother to read anything in my chart. She was dismissive of my comfort/pain, she asked very little about my symptoms or what I was experiencing, and just overall seemed like she had zero "f's" to give. I guess she's great if you have zero problems and you are just going in for an annual.. And if you don't care about poor bedside manner. Woman could win a medal for how fast she is in and out... so ... there's that...

I was one of Dr Bettertons first patients in 1996 while pregnant with my first son. She took over for the physician who had actually delivered me, and was retiring. Dr. Betterton proceeded to deliver all three of my boys. Not only was she was my Dr, she was a fierce advocate for me in dealing with the ridiculous L & D nurses, and I mean fierce. It was great. Haha. I don't understand these bad reviews. She's a Dr, folks, and a busy one. In my opinion her pragmatism and desire to provide concise information are qualities I'd want in a Dr. I appreciate that she's respectful of both of our time. Perhaps if youre the type of person who needs a Dr to blow rainbows and sunshine at you, you may not appreciate her approach. But, if you want a Dr is compassionate, capable and an incredible advocate when needed, I can't think of a better physician. Every single friend and family member I've referred to over the years feels the exact the same way about her. The only thing I would change… about her would be for her to become a G.P. Then, I wouldn't have to see anyone else!

She never just sits down and talks to you. It’s almost like she has to restrain herself from looking at her watch.

Very im personnel and didn't explain anything, just rushed me in and out. Was not concerned with my comfort when doing pap. I will not see her again, or recommend her to anyone. She reminds me of nurse ratchet. Very unpleasant

Poor bedside manner, didn't really seem to care.

I would not recommend her. She does not care about what's wrong just getting on to the next person. I'm pretty sure she diagnosed me before even seeing me. She was not a help to me at all.

I really feel confident in Dr. Betterton's ability to care for me and my unborn child. Sometimes it's challenging to get an appointment because she is with patients who go into labor, etc. (and I'm happy to re-schedule, my turn is coming to be the more needy patient!). Dr. Betterton explains things well and doesn't speak to you like you are an idiot. She doesn't sugar coat things which I find refreshing. Another aspect that I really like about her (and some may not like this) is that she sympathizes with the ups and downs of pregnancy but doesn't throw prescriptions at you. Less medication is the best route while expecting and I respect Dr. Betterton for sticking with that philosophy. I might be miserable but I can survive pregnancy without medication on top of medication. She delivered my first and will deliver the one I am currently expecting. I highly recommend her if you like dr's who get to the point, are thorough, and have the experience and knowledge to take care of you well.

The staff including the doctor seem to care more about getting you in and out rather than taking the time to listen or even enjoy the sound of the heartbeat for the first time or anytime after. Rather than taking the time to explain issues or concerns or to even listen you will regularly hear, "It's part of pregnancy, deal with it." It feels more like cattle than a great dr pregnancy experience. I would not suggest a friend use her services.
