Dr. Gustav Charles Magrinat, MD

I am a 75 year old retired high school business education teacher. In 1996 and at the age of 52, I was suddenly diagnosed with stage 3-4 invasive breast cancer. After an immediate lumpectomy and the removal of twelve lymph nodes by Dr. David Newman, I started treatment with Dr. Magrinat. Choosing the least invasive of all the choices given me, I was able to teach the remaining of the school year with little down time at home near and up to the end of my chemo—finishing my radical radiation the first month of summer vacation. I was even able to accomplish this with no hair loss! I can not say enough positive accolades for Dr. Newman and Dr. Magrinat for helping me through one of the most demanding stressful and difficult times for me and my family. I have been followed by Dr. Magrinat for the past 3 years due to being high risk for breast cancer. I only see him once a year but each time he enters the room remembers things about my life and struggles! He has helped me advocate to get insurance coverage and needed screenings! He goes above and beyond for each patient!

Dr Magrinat is a brilliant oncologist, very current practice, involves the patient in all discussions, expectations, treatment modalities, and prognosis as it is appropriate. Each patient and their family, friends, s/o all leave the o/v with an enhanced knowledge base of the situation, questions answered and notes!

Excellent listener and takes time to answer questions. I love the way he writes info down as we are talking and gives it to me afterwards.

Was going to treat patient with Stage IV Non-Hodgins Lymphoma with an oral pill when he returned from a vacation in Spain in two weeks. Patient went to Duke University Medical Hospital for 2nd opinion where he immediately had his spleen removed followed by adjuvant chemotherapy. He is alive today thanks to treament at Duke.
