My sister was diagnosed with kidney stones, and had to be taken to RWJH where she was admitted for a few days, and under went many tests, none of which said she needed an emergency Stent or a catheter. They recommended we make an appointment with a urologist after she was released, just to have a relationship with one in case she has issues going forward. We made an appointment a month later with Hari Tunuguntla, MD. Almost Exactly what happened to Rodney in his review below mine happened to my quadraplegic sister who went to see Dr.T. He ordered an important test where they have to run dye through you, but wanted to put a Stent in her kidney before she went for this test. That was a red flag if if I ever saw one, and decided to cancel this procedure, and get a second opinion with a doctor that had a lot of great reviews, and excellent credentials. He too ordered the same test and additional blood work. After getting back the results, he said my sister's kidney was fine, and we… should come back for a follow-up in a few months. Dr. Tunuguntla was very condescending to my mother, and was acting like this was a life or death situation if she didn't get it done. My sister has a lot of scar tissue from many previous surgeries and putting a Stent in her kidney before getting her results back, in my opinion, is absolutely malpractice, because that could have, unnecessarily, opened the door to other serious issues. He also put a catheter in my sister, which turned out was not needed either. This other doctor checked her kidney with his sonar machine after her catheter had been removed 5 days prior, and said her bladder was completely empty of urine, which meant it was working properly. Dr. Tunuguntla should be fired.

Dr. Tunuguntla is an excellent Urologist with very high standard of care. I am a patient of Dr. Tunuguntla for over 8 years. He treated me for longstanding urinary issues and performed my surgery successfully. He is very good in explaining the problem and treatment options. He does not use medical jargon. He takes time to explain the patient's problems. He goes extra mile in calling the patients regularly by phone to see how they are doing. I got calls from Dr. Tunuguntla even on weekends. He is very good in closely following the patient's response to treatment and does not order unnecessary tests. I found him to be very caring, extremely competent, well mannered, soft spoken, empathetic Urologist with excellent demeanor and wonderful bedside manner. He does not push patients towards surgery. He is terrific and highly skilled. I rate him as A+++++ Urologist. I have highest possible respect and regards to Dr. Tunugntla based on his expertise in treating urological issues of myself… and my wife. He treats urological issues in both men and women. I also came to know he is well published. I strongly recommend Dr. Tunuguntla to anyone with urinary problems of any type, complexity and severity.

he treated me for being unable to empty my bladder, constant bladder pain, and having extreme difficulty urinating in general. he did a urinary cystoscopy on me and discovered I have some scar tissue in my bladder and sent me home with Flomax. At my follow up appointment I told him that Flomax is not helping me very much and I still have trouble urinating and that I have constant bladder and kidney pain all day long everyday. he insisted that my urinary tract was functioning properly and that I have no issues. every question I asked him he would not answer and instead insisted I was fine and to see “other doctors” for MY URINARY PROBLEMS. His demeanor was very very rude and almost seemed insulted after I continued to tell him I NEED HELP! DO NOT SEE THIS DOCTOR IF YOU NEED URINARY HELP, he will insist that you are fine, that he can’t help you, and to see other doctors. disgusting. everyday I live with constant bladder and kidney pain until I can find a REAL CARING doctor that will… actually help me instead of insisting there is nothing wrong with me.

Dr. Tunuguntlas performed my surgery for a difficult procedure. He seemed conscientious and called me during my pre-surgical prep care. However, after my surgery, I was never called by by his office. I began having acute complications within two days of my surgery. Taken to RWJ ER by ambulance. I had to wait nine hours in the ER without being seen by Dr Tunuguntlas staff. Upon release from the ER, Dr T or staff refused to see me because I needed to get to his office by 4pm. My primary care doctor even called to persuade Dr T to see me since I was in a crisis situation. Dr T refused again stating he was going home. Ultimately, I had to be seen at another hospital since his staff did not know what was going on. Unfortunately, I had an underlying medical condition which complicated the surgery. Yet, Dr T sent me home after surgery knowing I was experiencing serious medical problems. I have never experienced such unprofessionalism and apathy from a medical community as I… did with RWJ Dr. T's group. A surgical procedure with a three week recovery period became a seven week ordeal. Dr T told me I did not need an ultrasound after surgery. I began experiencing symptoms again after six months from surgery. My condition has returned. It was diagnosed by another surgeon. Dr. T or his staff have never followed up with me or contacted my doctor to inquire about my post surgical care. I will need another surgery. Please do not trust this physician or practice. I regret my decision every day.
