Dr. Harriet Nkhwanjiwa Banda

Dr. Banda was the only doctor who truly listened to me when I said my daughter would take bottles for her dad and I but not the nurses consistently - she allowed us the opportunity to stay with our daughter to let us make the 48 hour mark to take her home. My little one didn’t gain enough weight and Dr. Banda kept her another day - not because she didn’t trust us - but because she cared and knew weight LOSS could be serious within a 24 hour period of not being able to see a pediatrician. We’re home as of today and we appreciated Dr. Banda and her medical advice and sweet demeanor.

I have never been more bullied and threatened by a medical professional than by Dr. Banda. She pushed our newborn girl into NICU services at the hospital for conditions that were not only common among all five of our children but also among a majority of newborn babies. When I told her that I wanted to seek other medical advice and choose a different treatment plan for our child she threatened to involve child protection services. We were traumatized by her "treatment" of our child and can't help but feel that the hospital and/or her treatment plans and policies are in place to boost revenue for herself and/or the hospital. No coincidence that of all of the medical bills that we received from our child's birth, her's was the largest. I finally had enough and said I was going to take my child out of the hospital, that I know my parental rights and that I was going to seek other treatment for my child. She relented, we took our child home, followed our own treatment plan (just as we had… with the others) and our baby girl is beautiful, healthy, growing and happy. The total experience was traumatic for all of us, including our little girl, who now only wants to be constantly held and cuddled. Shame on Dr. Banda, she violates the ethics of her profession and puts her own pride, hubris and fortune seeking before the best welfare of her patients. If you too have been bullied by Dr. Banda, you're not alone! Know your parental rights and stand up for yourself and your child.

I wanted to breastfeed my baby and she fought me on it. She even lectured me on she was formula fed and turned out great. She held me in the hospital longer because she was concerned. Which everything came out just fine. ALL poking my child for blood samples and she never even noticed or cared that he had a severe diaper rash. SHE discriminated against me for choice of breastfeeding.
